How we met

in college - circa 2011

We first met at UWO and had a class or two together, but we didn't really talk much or at all because naturally Allie was in the front of the class and Kurt sat in the back! Outside of class we ran into each other a few times. Turns out the house parties Allie and her friends would attend were actually always at Kurt's house. Except Allie didn't even know Kurt lived there! Typical Allie! We also hung around at the same bar on campus, Kelly's. However, if you ask Kurt he'll tell you Allie was never there (but fun fact Kelly's was Allie's favorite bar!) Anyway... needless to say our paths crossed but never at the right time!

How we started dating

post college - circa 2017

Several years after college, we ran into each other a few times Downtown Appleton the spring of 2017! It wasn't until summer that we started hanging out. Depends on who you ask... Allie will say she mustered up some (liquid) courage to go up to Kurt and ask him when he was going to take her out on his boat. But if you ask Kurt, he'll say he approached Allie first! Either here nor there now, but numbers were exchanged and later that night Allie got a text from Kurt saying "2113 N Division St, Kurt's House, 11am". So Allie and bridesmaid, Kailee, showed up at his house the next morning for a boat day. We started dating shortly after and "Facebook Official" on August 17, 2017... fast forward and here we are now!

How we got engaged

August 22, 2020

We didn't have weekend plans, which was unusual for our busy summers, so we decided to go boating on Saturday, August 22. Kurt had big, big plans planned for the weekend but of course I didn't know... so naturally I started inviting people over for a Friday night cook out and a fire. Everyone kept texting Kurt asking why were we having people since they'd all be at TJ's for my surprise the next day. He just responded saying it wasn't his idea, so just go with it! The next morning we were getting ready for our boat day and decided that we would meet Matt and Tanya (Allie's brother and sister in-law) at the Black Wolf boat launch. We launched and were going to go to the sandbar but decided to have an anniversary drink at TJ's with my parents instead (which was totally planned and not spur of the moment like I thought).. So we took off for our 2 minute boat ride... Just off the point at TJ's, Kurt stopped the boat. I was so confused so I looked back to Matt and Tanya and they were coming up to our boat. I looked back to Kurt and he was rummaging through a compartment, grabbed a little box and got down on one knee. He said "you should probably stand up for this" and some other really sweet things and then asked me to spend the rest of my life with him! I first responded in tears and huge hug and then he told me I needed to answer his question and of course I said YES!! We took off for TJ's and I was admiring my ring when Kurt told me to look up. More surprises, our family and friends were all lined up on shore to greet us and celebrate our engagement!! The best day just kept getting better!
