CHA-PUL-TE-PEC from CHAPUL (grasshopper) TEPEC (hill), ancient forest now a 1600 acres park in the middle of the city. A great place to have a relaxed day with lots of people watching, culture and history. An authentic Mexican breakfast could be at LA PANCITA or EL PIALADERO DE GUADALAJARA and then a short walk to NIÑOS HEROES MONUMENT, take on the gentle slope up towards EL CASTILLO now the national history museum, just a great place to wonder while learning about the turbulent history of Mexico. Walk down the slope to the ZOO, enjoy the monuments, fountains and lakes on your way to the MUSEO DE ANTROPOLOGIA a world class museum really worth the visit. Lunch could be at THE MERIDIAN a nice little restaurant inside the museum. May want to continue on to the JARDIN BOTANICO with plenty of gardens and green spaces with an interesting variety of flora too see.
Teotihuacán was built around 100 BC and collapsed a thousand years later in 550 AD due to invasion or famine (no one really knows). Unlike the pyramids in Egypt, Teotihuacan wasn’t just a religious temple - it was a city that reached a peak population of 200,000 people.
Renowned Mexican artist Frida Kahlo was born in, and lived and died in, Casa Azul (Blue House), now a museum. If this sounds like your thing then make sure you arrive early to avoid the crowds, especially on weekends as it is very popular with tourists.
Would have to be one of our favorite cities in Mexico. If time is on your side, head north west (approx. 250kms) to San Miguel de Allende. Considered one of the most beautiful cities in the world with charming streets, stunning architecture, and vibrant color.
