Question

What is IslandWood?

Answer

IslandWood is an environmental education nonprofit serving the Puget Sound region. The beautiful 250-acre campus on Bainbridge Island features miles of trails, indoor and outdoor classrooms, six different natural ecosystems, and sustainably-built infrastructure to facilitate learning, discovery, and community building. During the school year, they host school groups (usually 4th - 6th graders) to stay overnight in their lodges and learn about the environment in a hands on setting. For the wedding weekend, we encourage guests to get out and explore this beautiful place, which we'll have all to ourselves! Guests who choose to stay at IslandWood will be divided into 4 different lodges that have a shared common space. All rooms in the lodges have comfortable beds and a private bathroom. Rooms come in a variety of arrangements, with most rooms containing a queen bed and 2 bunks (bottom bunks are full size). While there are not TVs in the lodges or rooms, there's Wifi available across the whole campus. Where it makes sense, we encourage guests to bunk up so that we can accommodate anybody who wants to stay on site and experience this magical place! For guests choosing to stay at IslandWood Friday - Sunday, all meals will be provided in the IslandWood dining hall.

Question

How does rooming at IslandWood work?

Answer

IslandWood has 52 rooms that can accommodate between 2 - 4 adults comfortably (more if anybody is willing to sleep on a top bunk). Hopefully that's plenty to accommodate anybody who wants to sleep onsite, especially if folks are willing to find roommates where it makes sense. Allie and Elise might have some gentle "suggestions" on roommate groupings that would facilitate the goal of giving everyone who wants it the IslandWood experience. After rooms are booked, Allie and Elise assign you to a specific room in one of the 4 lodges based on your room size needs, preferences, accessibility needs, and proximity to people you know. Don't hesitate to reach out if you have questions about any of this! We want everyone to have the IslandWood experience of their dreams, since it's quite the magical place.

Question

When can I book my room at IslandWood?

Answer

Now! Here's the Eventbrite link for booking: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/sterling-wied-wedding-july-18th-20th-2025-registration-1225458281709?aff=oddtdtcreator

Question

What if I don't choose to stay overnight at IslandWood?

Answer

That's totally okay! Even if you're staying off site (or are local and plan to drive back on Saturday night), you're more than welcome to join for the Friday welcome campfire, Saturday morning/afternoon adventures around IslandWood, and the Sunday brunch - it's encouraged in fact! We will be reaching out closer to the wedding to find out if you'll be on campus for lunch on Saturday, to make sure we have enough food for everyone.

Question

Do I need a car to get to IslandWood?

Answer

No! As long as you can get to downtown Seattle where the ferry is (light rail is a good option for this), we'll provide shuttles to take you from the ferry terminal on Bainbridge Island to IslandWood, and back. The main downtown street is accessible from the ferry on foot. However, if you want to explore the island on your own, that may be easier with a car, as Ubers aren't available.

Question

Are kids invited?

Answer

Yes, we would love to have your kids there!

Question

What should I wear?

Answer

Mostly we want you to wear something you're comfortable in! For the Friday night campfire, think comfy and casual. For the ceremony and reception, dressy casual or semi-formal! No black ties and ballgowns required.
