Cancun is the best place to fly into. It is about 1 hour drive from the airport to Akumal. Priceline has good price options for flights.
If you are planning on staying more than a few days and are exploring outside of just Akumal, then a rental car is highly recommended. You can legally drive in Mexico and the area we are staying is not congested or hard to drive around. And rentals are much cheaper options. If you are just going to stay near Akumal or if you want to see if you can ride with someone that has a rental car, then you would not need one. If you do not rent a car, you can take a shuttle or the bus from Cancun to Akumal. Website for car rental at Cancun Airport: https://www.cancunairport.com/rental-car-agencies.html Cost runs around $158 for a compact car for 1 week.
No, we do not, no gifts please. Your presence is the present. We are happy to celebrate and share these memories with our loved ones.
If you have a credit card that works internationally, most business will accept and that is the preferred and safe way to purchase items. If you want to have some cash for trinkets or drinks or food on beach, you will want to bring some pesos. You can preorder from your bank or go to a currency exchange at airport. The airport exchange will be more expensive rates to exchange, your bank is the cheaper way to go.
If you are staying right in downtown Akumal or Akumal Village/Playa Akumal, then a golf cart will help you get around that area. However, if you are in other bays in Akumal, golf carts cannot be used on the main highway to get from one bay to another. A rental car is recommended as it is much cheaper, and you can get around everywhere easier.
We are staying at a air bnb on the beach in Adventuras Akumal Bay. This area has sandy beaches, great for swimming. There is a restaurant called Beached Bikini Bar and Grill that is 1 minute walk from where we are staying. You can walk from our location the main Playa Akumal Village on beach. It is about a 40-minute walk or a 7-minute drive.
There are several bays that are in the Akuaml area where you can stay. If you are not staying close to us, you will want a rental car so you can easily get around. Other bays are: Jade Bay, South Akumal Adventuras (where we are staying) Xcacel, Soliman Bay, Tankah Bay, Half Moon Bay and Tulum.
