One day while working at my job as a barista, I got the pleasure of meeting Chris and Riley. They popped into Starbucks to get Chris a much-needed coffee before his shift of babysitting. If you know anything about Round Rock, it is a quiet family-friendly suburb of Austin with a population of 20 people who love punk music. Chris happened to be wearing a hoodie of one of my favorite bands, The Queers. I immediately want to be friends since there were slim pickings of punk fans. But he had other priorities and his allegiance to Dunkin' Donuts to think about. I also had a coffee shop to run and we parted ways. The following day I had gotten tickets to see The Voodoo Glow Skulls with Authority Zero at a venue called Beauty Ballroom. I had bought two tickets because I wanted to go with a guy from my class. He ended up blowing me off and I almost didn't go to the show. Luckily, my dear friend Gina said she would be my date for the night and we ended up having a blast at the show. I was in front, like usual, dancing with my friend and a bunch of dudes knocked right into us. Usually, a ska show is fairly fun and easy going but some assholes apparently came to party. Those "assholes" were Brian and Chris, the guy from the night before. After the show was over, I decided to confront Chris and say I meet him the previous night. Chris being very drunk and awkward asked me a bunch of questions about sci-fi, music, and where I went to school. He was happy that I wasn't a student at his university and we made plans to hang out in the future. Apparently, we had been circling each other since he moved to Austin. We lived in adjacent neighborhoods, went to the same concerts, comic book stores, arcades, bars, etc. We were even were born the same day. He once saw my car with all the band stickers and thought "I would hang out with that dude". Well, he gets to hang out with this dude for our lifetimes and has been for the past 10 years. -Alison M.
