The International Airport of Acapulco is only a 10 min drive to Playa Diamante, The Pierre Marquez Hotel and the wedding venue Galapagos Condominium. As we approach the wedding date we will ask guests to provide travel details so we can offer transportation to and from airport. There will be no need to rent cars as the distance between hotels and condos is unbelievably short and we will also be providing transportation between venues.
While we are recommending the Pierre Marquez (mundo imperial) hotel, there are many airbnb options for condo rentals on the beach near Galapagos Condominium where the wedding will take place. The Mayan Palace is also an option via time share rental and is also very close. If you are looking at airbnb options or something different please contact us with any questions. We do not recommend staying in the bay area, as it is very far from Playa Diamante. For a very economical option we recommend the Hotel Rru https://www.hotelrrudiamante.com/ located directly behind Galapagos condominium. Riu does not have beach access, but you are able to use the Galapagos beach and pool area.
While the hotels suggested are walkable to the wedding venue (Galapagos condominium), we want to ensure nobody has to worry about getting around any wedding related events. For this reason we will be providing shuttle services from airport to hotel upon arrival as well as to and from hotel to wedding related activities.
Playa diamante is a suburb of the city of Acapulco. To put it in perspective it would be the “north shore” relative to the city of Chicago. Playa diamante is outside of the famous Bay Area of Acapulco city (about 30 min drive away) and is located on open water. The beach at playa diamante full of privately owned condos,as well as large resorts. During the weekend of the wedding there will be no need to travel outside of this area. All wedding activities will take place at Galapagos condominium. Wedding guests are invited sit back and enjoy the beach, and hotel or condo amenities which include golfing, tennis, dinning, SPA and many other activities that will be at your finger tips.
We would not have decided to have our wedding in Acapulco if we believed that it risked the safety of our guests. Acapulco is a large city, and every city has crime issues. Acapulco’s crime problems have become acute in recent years. The nature of the crime is very familiar to anyone living in American cities. Like most cities - including Chicago - the crime is concentrated in certain neighborhoods and targets persons engaged in drug and gang-related activity. The U.S. State Department issued a travel advisory for Guerrero (of which Acapulco is a part). We’re not sure if this travel ban will still be in place in February of 2018, but it’s important for us to make sure we address your concerns about this. We are planning our wedding activities so that they will all take place in the safest part of town, Playa Diamante, outside of the bay itself. Playa Diamante is home to beachfront condos, hotels, and golf courses. It is host to Mexico’s biggest international tennis tournament.
We are honored for our friends and family to travel from near and far to join us on such a special occasion. We understand the time, effort, and expensive your traveling to be with us will take. Truly, the greatest gift is your attendance, and the memories we will cherish forever. For those who wish to help us further celebrate our union with a gift we have registered on Zola, and on amazon at: https://www.amazon.com/wedding/alison-hernadnez-brian-myers-acapulco-february-2019/registry/2DMQCMLVU4UD2 Thank you again for being part of our special day!
-Drink only bottled water and HYDRATE A LOT! -Adjust to the food slowly, change in oils and cooking can upset the belly - For long layovers and transfers we recommend trying to pack only a carry-on so there is not missing luggage. Speaking from personal experience! -Often times when transferring airplanes in Mexico City to Acapulco it is common to have flights cancelled and then being re-booked on the last flight of the day. While this is not ideal, we just wanted to make sure you know it can happen (and has happened to us) -

We are recommending that people stay arounf the hotel and enjoy the premises. If you need to for any reason leave the hotel using the hotels taxis via the concierge is what we recommend.
The exchange rate is favorable for Americans traveling to Mexico as it is almost 2:1. On average it is about $19 pesos to $1 USD. You can try to exchange dollars to pesos before your trip, or at the airport. You can also retrieve pesos from any ATM which will give you the current exchange for the day. Make sure to check with your local bank which Mexican banks will charge you a smaller fee for the transaction. You can also use your credit card or debit card at the hotel (you may have small transaction fees when you use your card to pay directly), but it is always good to have some pesos on hand for tips, or small purchases. Lastly please let your bank know you are traveling to Mexico so that your account is not frozen once you try to use your cards there.
