12:00 pm - 12:15 pm

Wedding vase https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=65DBP_QSlQA What is a Native American Wedding Vase? There are two parts to the vase, which each symbolize one half of the couple to be wed. In the middle is a handle, which joins these two parts just as a marriage does. So, the vase itself is inspired by the idea of joining two parts, which then become a single entity.

They will remove the blue blankets and then drape the large white blanket over the shoulders of the couple, symbolizing a covering over of their weaknesses and sorrows. The couple can enter their new life of marriage joined with peace and fulfillment.

Jumping the broom ( African Descendants Americas) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_8viErM3XDg It was believed that the practice came from the West African country of Ghana, where local brooms were believed to hold spiritual value and signified the sweeping away of evil spirits and past wrongs. Waving a broom over the heads of a couple while marrying was meant to ward off spirits. This practice is well attested as a marriage ceremony for slaves in the Southern United States in the 1840s and 1850s who were often not permitted to wed legally and changed to a jump over the broom.
