How We Met

Summer 2016

Kevin and Alisa met through an online dating app in the Summer of 2016. They connected immediately over a shared love of running, pizza, and their pets.

The Proposal

February 24, 2019

Kevin and Alisa were getting ready to head to Ben's 2nd birthday (Ben's mom, Samantha, was the first friend Alisa made when she moved to New York ten years ago). Alisa was putting on makeup in the bathroom while Kevin was in the bedroom. Kevin called to Alisa, "Hey, can I ask you something?". This was a pretty normal occurrence, and Alisa expected Kevin's next question to be "Does this look wrinkled?" or "Is this a stain?" and was initially a bit annoyed because she was mid eyeliner application (and ladies know how tricky that is!). Alisa went to go see what Kevin wanted and saw Kevin down on one knee, ring box opened. Kevin popped 'the question' and Alisa said yes! Kevin proposed with a ring he designed himself (with a little help from his friend Mia- a jewelry designer) made of his Grandmother's and Great-Grandmother's stones.

The Almost Proposal

February 22, 2019

Kevin and Alisa had their first date at Shelter, a pizza and cocktail restaurant that has giant fireplaces. Throughout their relationship, they have revisited several times to eat their favorite food (pizza!) and have a drink but by no means was it a 'regular' spot. Although it was a favorite, Kevin and Alisa hadn't visited in a while so Alisa thought it was strange when on a Monday, Kevin asked if she wanted to visit there Friday that week AND offered to make reservations. That week, Kevin met up with Mia to pick up the custom engagement ring the two had designed. Kevin had taken Alisa's Miltary parka (which she wasn't using) to pick up the ring for its oversized pockets hoping it would conceal the ring box. When he got home, he successfully snuck the ring out of the jacket and was able to conceal it undetected. The following morning, the weather had changed and Alisa put on that Military parka to go to work. Panic set in for Kevin realizing how lucky he was that he moved over the ring the night before. On Wednesday, Kevin called to make the reservation. The hostess told him that they could only reserve fireplaces for parties of 6 or more. Kevin was disappointed but realized he already told Alisa they were going to dinner there! Friday came, and Kevin told Alisa that they didn't get a fireplace table. Alisa was disappointed but was still excited for a date night. Kevin also asked Alisa if she wanted to walk along the water after dinner (it was February: freezing and misty). Alisa thought that was strange, and suspicious (WAS KEVIN GOING TO PROPOSE?!) . The two went to dinner and had the worst seats at the restaurants. They hailed a cab home didn't walk along the water. On the way, Alisa wondered if maybe Kevin really was just being sentimental and maybe she was jumping to conclusions about a ring? Little did she know... something was burning a hole in Kevin's pocket.
