How We Met

The Rom-Com of the Century | October 2017

Nearly 5 years ago, Alina and Jared started their second jobs post-college at a company called Synechron. Synechron was filled with young 20' somethings like themselves, so it didn't take long for Alina and Jared to form a friend group with their new co-workers, which later became known as the "Syne Squad." Within the friend group, Alina and Jared instantly clicked due to their humorous, outgoing, and "life of the party" personalities. Somewhere in between all of the road trips, themed parties, food adventures, game nights, movie nights, friends' weddings, and pranks on friends, Alina and Jared formed a lifelong friendship and true connection. Eventually, life took them on different paths - Jared moving to SC to pursue a new job with PwC and Alina moving to MI to purse an opportunity with Google. Or so they thought - in 2020, both Jared and Alina got "too-good-to-refuse" job offers in Charlotte, bringing them back to the same city. Just like the rom-coms, they had their own "it was always you" moment/realization and the rest is history! People always say you should marry your best friend, and Alina and Jared are getting to do just that.

The Proposal

A Dream Come True | March 2021

Back in February, Jared asked Alina's parents for her hand in marriage and their blessing. While Alina knew this was happening, she did not expect a proposal anytime soon. You see, out of the two of them, Alina is THE planner and organizer. She knew how much pressure proposals can be and figured it would take time for Jared to come up with a plan. Little did she know, Jared had an amazing one in store. With the help of Alina's best friend Sophie (The Proposal Fairy Godmother) and Alina's two older sisters Zeba and Seema, Jared planned a breathtaking proposal at Merchant & Trade in Uptown Charlotte. Jared got their friends Nick & Alysha to text him and Alina asking to go a double date at Merchant & Trade. This wasn't suspicious, as the two of them hang out with Nick & Alysha often! Alina even texted Alysha asking her what she was wearing and what time they would get there! When they arrived, Alysha texted Alina telling her they were running late and to go ahead and get the table. The hostess already knew the plan, so she led them to a rooftop table with a bouquet of flowers and a photo album on it. Alina immediately knew something was up and asked "What's going on?", "Wait are you serious?!" and then Jared led her to private area of the rooftop that was beautifully decorated with roses and candles. Overlooking the city, Jared got down on one knee and professed his love and desire to marry Alina. She was incredibly shocked, but so happy. In tears, she said yes. Sophie captured amazing shots of the moment and Alina's sisters and niece jumped out ready with hugs!

The Nikkah Ceremony

In Honor of Zain Abedin | May 2021

In May 2021, Alina's father Syed Zainul Abedin (Zain), received a terminal diagnosis with 2 weeks left. Their family was devastated to say the least. With so little time, Alina's family knew this meant her father would likely not be here for her wedding in February. Alina, Jared, and her family decided then to go ahead and do the Nikkah Ceremony with her father present. A Nikkah is the Islamic marriage vows ceremony, which is very sacred and important to her father. Within 4 days of the diagnosis, Alina's aunts, uncles, and cousins all flew down to SC to spend time with her father and attend the ceremony. Alina utilized Amazon, Etsy, local bakeries, her sisters, cousins, and bridesmaids to create a beautiful venue at her family home in SC. On May 29, 2021, Alina's cousin Najam (who's more like an older brother) officiated the ceremony and her father was right by her side. Alina's father went on to live 4 more months and passed away on September 24, 2021. While he will be dearly missed in February, Alina and Jared are extremely grateful that he got to be a part of their wedding no matter what.
