The Virginia Museum of Fine Arts (VMFA) is a must-see destination in Richmond. It includes the largest public collection of Fabergé outside of Russia, the finest collection of Art Nouveau outside of Paris, and Sarah’s favorite section—a lot of weird contemporary art. Admission is free—enjoy the exhibits or take a nice stroll through the surrounding gardens.
Ahh, yes. The neighborhood spot. And where Ethan Hawke was known to sit at the bar and sip on tequila while filming a movie in Richmond. Come for the happy hour, enjoy a $3.50 glass of house wine, and make sure you save room for Spaghetti a la Joe (it’s the largest plate of spaghetti you’ll ever eat).
In case you didn’t know, Chris loves a beer. Which is why we often venture to the brewery hub of Richmond—visit Ardent, The Veil, Strangeways, Väsen, and (our personal favorite) the Starr Hill rooftop—all within walking distance from each other! And if you’re looking for some good ol’ fashioned BBQ, hit up ZZQ.
Maymont is a 100-acre Victorian estate and public park in Richmond. It contains Maymont Mansion, now a historic house museum, an arboretum, formal gardens, a carriage collection, native wildlife exhibits, a nature center, and Children's Farm. (Thanks, Wikipedia!)
