Kyle & I met at bible study while attending Albany Law School. He was passionate about having Christian law students come together for fellowship during the stressful tenure of law school. It was only a matter of time before Kyle & I became close friends: attending church together, going on Starbucks runs, game nights with Kyle & his family, and talking for hours when Kyle dropped me home from long days in the library. This all laid the foundation for us to take the next step in our relationship. At the same time, we were both praying for God to move in our love lives and provide the perfect companion for us. Unbeknownst to either of us, that life partner was right in front of us the whole time & God had already answered those prayers. However, it was up to us to step into those blessings. On May 10, 2021, Kyle brought me to his favorite restaurant in Albany and asked me to be his girl friend and our journey began. Over the next year we had more adventures and made more memories than we can mention here. Along the way we realized our passion for traveling together and made appearances in Puerto Rico, Jamaica, Italy, and France.
I can remember about four months after we officially started dating, I tried to imagine what life would be like without Alicia. That was when I realized there was no way I could go through life without her. I knew it was only a matter of time and preparation. I wanted to give her the ring and proposal she deserved -- the absolute best! Surprising someone as smart (and nosy) as Alicia was a difficult task that I didn’t exactly completely pull off. Especially since Alicia and I love to discuss our future in detail. So she generally knew it was coming. But it was in the details where I caught her off guard. I collaborated with her best friend and maid of honor, Melissa, who helped keep Alicia off my tail (sort of) and take care of all the behind the scenes work—as well as provide emotional support every time Alicia’s nosiness started stressing me out! I couldn’t have done it without her. Alicia loves 3 things: New York City, fancy restaurants, and skyline views. So what did I do? I booked a private event at Peak, an exclusive restaurant on the 101st floor in Hudson yards (in Manhattan), with an amazing view of New York. I hired a florist to construct a rose arch (Alicia’s favorite color is red), a videographer and photographer, and contacted 25 of our closest friends, who came dressed to the nines for the big event. It was the best day of my life. On June 4, 2022, the countdown to #LegallyIshman began. We look forward to celebrating with you in Montego Bay, Jamaica!
