for guests traveling from san francisco, the drive to Carmel is 2–2.5 hours (120 mi). the most scenic route is along 1-South, with coastal views along the way. you may also take 101-South for a faster option. we recommend allowing extra time for weekend traffic and planning ahead if traveling during peak hours.

for guests flying in, the closest airport is Monterey Regional Airport (MRY), located about 15 mins from Carmel. it’s small, so flight options may be limited. San Francisco International Airport (SFO) will have the most flight options and is located 2–2.5 hours away. San Jose International Airport (SJC) is also a great option and located about 1.5 hours away from Carmel. for those staying the long weekend, rental cars are highly recommended, as Carmel and the surrounding areas are best explored by car. uber/lyft are also plentiful in the area. we encourage booking flights and cars early, as October is a popular time on the coast.
