The Texas State Capitol offers free 30-minute tours, or feel free to pick up a self-guided tour pamphlet and explore at your own pace. Between the Capitol's amazing architecture and its 22-acres of historic monuments, it's absolutely worth seeing.
South Congress has a huge variety of boutiques and restaurants. Whether you're in the mood for window shopping or try on some classic Texas boots, it's well worth the trip! If all that shopping and wandering works up an appetite, there's plenty of food trucks and restaurants (like local favorites Home Slice Pizza and Guerros).
The 6th Street Entertainment District is made up of the section of 6th Street that is known historically as Pecan Street and by college kids as “Dirty Sixth”. At night, the bars open their doors and on weekend nights the street is blocked off to cars. High heels, cheap drinks and loud music flood the streets. It’s the perfect destination for a 21st birthday or Bachelor(ette) Party.
From March to October, 1.5 million bats emerge nightly from narrow crevices in the underside of the Ann W. Richards Congress Avenue Bridge. They usually start to come out around 20 minutes before sundown and it's such a cool sight!
