Not only is this Walker and Alice's favorite bar in Chapel Hill, but it's the spot of their first date! Make sure to grab a beer and an order of mac n cheese. It's Alice's favorite (and she knows her mac n cheese!).
Just a few minutes away from UNC's campus is this great little independent bookstore. It wouldn't be a trip for Alice/Walker's wedding without buying some new books!
The North Carolina Botanical Gardens are a great space to take a lovely Fall walk and it's just a quick drive from Chapel Hill's campus. It also has a wonderful visitor's center and gift shop.
If you're up for a little drive, Eno River State Park is a great place for a hike. The state park also offers boat rentals if you want to add a little adventure to your trip.
Obviously, the campus of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill is the centerpiece of the area and it means a great deal to us! Take some time to walk around and check out its key features. Take a drink out of the iconic Old Well, check out the North Carolina Collection Gallery in Wilson Library, take a walk around the Bell Tower, walk through the massive Keenan Stadium where the Tar Heels play football, or visit the Carolina Basketball Museum at the Dean Dome. If you're looking for a more Alice-and-Walker centric tour, visit Morrison dorm, where Alice stayed for her first two year, or Winston, where Walker lived for his. You can also visit Boshamer Stadium, the UNC baseball field where Walker and Alice had one of their first dates.
The Ackland Art Museum is right off the corner of campus and has world renowned art exhibits for a small admission price. It's a great way to spend a few hours without leaving the immediate area.
Franklin Street's most iconic bar and restaurant, Top of the Hill offers great Southern food, favorite beers on tap, and terrific views of Franklin Street.
This iconic Chapel Hill dive bar is the go-to post-basketball game celebration spot. It's a great place for a daytime beer in their outside space under the trees. Make sure to get and keep a Blue Cup, Chapel Hill's ultimate souvenir. And be sure to take a picture out back beneath the He's Not Here Chapel Hill mural.
Yogurt Pump (or Yopo) is the quintessential dessert spot in Chapel Hill. This frozen yogurt hole-in-the-wall offers a wide range of ever-changing flavors and toppings. It's right next to He's Not if you're looking for a fun double feature.
Cat's Cradle is an excellent music venue in neighboring Carrboro. It's a great place for a show, and Alice and Walker spent much of their final two years at UNC hanging around the Carrboro area.
If you're looking for something faster than a sit-down breakfast, Sunrise Biscuit Kitchen is perfect. Their biscuits are the best in the area and their cinnamon rolls are the biggest we've ever seen!
Walker's all-time favorite burger joint, Buns is great for a late-night, inexpensive bite. Make sure to get fries and don't skip on the customize-able dipping sauces.
A brand new bookstore in downtown Chapel Hill that is right on Franklin Street! Better still, it has beer, coffee, and dessert in addition to books.
