Walker and Alice met in a Waterstones bookstore in Bloomsbury, London, while on a study abroad trip hosted by their alma mater, UNC Chapel Hill. Alice explained that her favorite author had been there the day before. Walker responded, “I like books.” From that moment on, they knew they’d be friends. As their semester in London came to an end, Walker decided to take an American Literature class with Alice in the Spring semester back at UNC Chapel Hill to see if their friendship might turn into something more. His bet paid off. Back in Chapel Hill, Alice and Walker went on their first official date at Linda’s in Chapel Hill on Valentine’s Day, 2014. When they graduated from UNC in 2015, Walker and Alice decided to move to New York City together. They moved into their first apartment at 106th St. and Columbus Ave on the Upper West Side of Manhattan in June of 2015. They spent their weekends taking walks in Central Park, buying books at Book Culture, sharing slices of cake at the Hungarian Pastry Shop, and having drinks at their favorite neighborhood bar, Bob’s Your Uncle. In 2017, Alice and Walker moved to the Prospect Lefferts Gardens neighborhood in Brooklyn. They love having coffee at PLG Tavern, enjoying happy hour in the backyard of Bluebird Bar and Restaurant, having picnics in Prospect Park and, of course, book shopping at Greenlight Bookstore. Walker proposed to Alice by the lake in Prospect Park on June 28, 2019 using Anne Comfort Jones Martin’s (Alice’s grandmother’s) original engagement ring. Alice, unsuspecting and already in her pajamas, said yes (of course!). They are thrilled to celebrate their love and their future together with their wonderful families and friends on October 10, 2021 back in Chapel Hill, NC.
