FAQs

Getting to Santa Teresa takes a few extra steps but it’s worth it. It’s a special place, and we’re excited to share it with you. We’ve put together everything you need to make travel and your stay smooth. Just follow the guide and get ready for a fun, unforgettable weekend with us.
Question

What’s the weather like in December?

Answer

December is one of the best times to visit Santa Teresa. Expect warm, sunny days in the mid-80s°F, slightly cooler evenings, and minimal rain as it’s the start of the dry season.

Question

Are there mosquitoes?

Answer

Yes, you’ll want to be prepared. Bring bug spray especially for evenings

Question

What should I wear?

Answer

For the wedding, go for something beachy, festive, and fun. Other events are more breezy and relaxed. Plan on wearing sandals all weekend. Heels and dress shoes won't be practical for the setting. It's also humid, so breathable fabrics go a long way

Question

How do I get there again?

Answer

Quick recap: 1. Fly into Juan Santamaría International Airport (SJO) 2. Take a short flight to Cobano Airport (ACO) 3. Shuttle to Hotel Nantipa (We will help coordinate this, just let us know when you plan to arrive) A few helpful notes: - You’ll go through customs in San José. It’s typically smooth, but plan ~2-3 hours between your international arrival and connecting flight - If you’re traveling from the U.S., no visa is required for short visits - Domestic flights to Santa Teresa only operate during daylight hours, so some guests may need to stay one night in San José depending on arrival timing

Question

What time should I arrive in San José?

Answer

Try to arrive earlier in the day, as connecting flights from SJO to ACO only operate during daylight hours. If timing doesn’t work, you may need to stay one night in San José and take a flight the next morning.

Question

Do all guests need to stay at Nantipa?

Answer

No. While wedding events will be centered at Hotel Nantipa, we’ll also recommend nearby hotels and villas in Santa Teresa. The town is small and easy to get around, and we expect guests to stay across a few nearby properties.

Question

Should I bring cash?

Answer

Yes. While many places in Santa Teresa accept credit cards, cash is helpful for smaller spots, taxis, and tips. Tipping is appreciated but not always expected. A tip of around 10% is customary for good service. For things like drivers, hotel staff, and activity guides, small cash tips are always appreciated. USD is widely accepted, and Costa Rican colones are also useful. ATMs are limited in Santa Teresa

Question

How do we get around?

Answer

Santa Teresa is small but unpaved dirt roads make it a challenge to walk. We can help arrange ATVs and taxis Once you’re at Hotel Nantipa, you’re in a great central location.

Question

Can you help plan activities or transportation?

Answer

Yes! The hotel concierge can assist with transfers, reservations, and activities, including arranging your shuttle to and from Cobano Airport. Everything will be easy to coordinate once you arrive.

Question

What else can I do while in Costa Rica?

Answer

If you’re making the trip, we highly recommend turning it into a longer vacation. Costa Rica is incredible. Santa Teresa itself has plenty to offer (surfing, beach, yoga, amazing food), but if you have extra time, you could also explore: La Fortuna: rainforest, waterfalls, and the famous Arenal volcano Monteverde: cloud forests, hanging bridges, ziplining Manuel Antonio: national park with wildlife If you prefer to stay local, Santa Teresa is the perfect place to relax and soak it all in -- no need to over-plan.

Question

Can I bring my kids?

Answer

We love your kids, but due to the nature of the weekend, we’re keeping this an adults-only celebration. If your child is specifically included in your invitation, they're absolutely welcome. We appreciate your understanding!

Question

Any other local tips?

Answer

We recommend sticking only to bottled water. Also, you cannot flush toilet paper -- just use the bins provided (totally normal here!)
