woohoo!

We met one lively Saturday night at the Million Dollar Cowboy Bar, where a mutual friend (shoutout to Hannah Spannuth!) introduced us over a game of pool. Although we had met briefly once before, we got to talking and hit it off, bonding over a love of all things outdoors and, by surprise, our shared Ohio upbringings. Conversation continued over slices of pizza at Pinky G's (Steve's treat) and we made plans to ski together the following day (ski town code for "go on a date"). Steve then offered Ali a ride home, unabashedly disclosing the fact that he drove a mini van (which didn't bother Ali one bit.) We exchanged phone numbers and a hug outside Ali's house before Steve zoomed off. The next morning, we rode the bus out to Teton Village. Upon arriving to Jackson Hole Mountain Resort, Ali quickly realized the significance and seriousness of Steve's interest when he said he needed to buy a lift ticket, as it's assumed that everyone has a ski pass of some sort. (Also, unbeknownst to Ali at that time, anyone who knows Steve knows that he doesn't pay to ski.) It was a perfect bluebird day and we were having a great time. At one point, we were chatting with an older local gentleman on the Sublette chair when he asked how long we'd been married for. We both laughed and explained that we had actually just met the night before and were in the midst of our first date. He too laughed, saying that said date seemed to be going really well and that he had a good feeling about us. We ended the afternoon with slope side beers at Casper, perched in the snow on Steve's upside-down snowboard. By this point, we were officially smitten with one another, giddy from an awesome day and our profound encounter on the Sublette chair. Fast forward five plus years and here we are, planning our wedding. Wish we would have gotten that old local guy's name so we could send him an invitation... he totally called it. :)
