Things To Do

A list of some of our favorite sights, eats, and drinks for you check out while you are in the Bay Area. (To be honest, the food recommendations are from Andrew, the activities are from Ali).

Clove And Hoof

4001 Broadway, Oakland, CA 94611

Pro Tip - the Fried chicken sandwich is excellent.

Old Weang Ping

6217 MacArthur Boulevard, Oakland, CA 94605

A bit out of the way but excellent noodles, curries (the Lychee one is unique), and other Thai dishes.

Mama Cho's Homestyle Korean BBQ

18911 Lake Chabot Road, Castro Valley, CA 94546

Fantastic fusion Korean BBQ spot. We recommend the bulgogi burrito, kalbi cheeseburger, philly cheesesteak, or honestly anything else on the menu.

Pokeatery

18911 Lake Chabot Road, Castro Valley, CA 94546

Same location as Mama Cho's and one of Andrew's go to poke spots while living in San Leandro.

Brotzeit Lokal

1000 Embarcadero, Oakland, CA 94606

Great brunch and the sausage sandwiches also make for an excellent meal. Large selection of cocktails and beers with an emphasis on German brews.

Tacos Asi Es Colima

2764 East 16th Street, Oakland, CA 94601

Shrimp tacos. Usually only open in the evenings. Best Mexican food in the Bay (in the world?)

Spices 3

370-372 12th Street, Oakland, CA 94607

SPICY. And delicious! We recommend the cumin lamb, fried fish in the wooden boat, and chili oil wontons.

Brenda's Oakland

4045 Broadway, Oakland, CA 94611

Best biscuits in Oakland.

Gangnam Jajang

4390 Telegraph Avenue, Oakland, CA 94609

Nice place for Korean Fried Chicken (KFC) and Jajangmyeon. The jajangmyeon at Yuyu Za Zang is also excellent. For bonus points, try both and let us know which you like better!

Marufuku Ramen

4828 Telegraph Avenue, Oakland, CA 94609

One of the best ramen spots in Oakland. If you want really good ramen, leave Oakland for San Mateo and check out Ramen Dojo or Ramen Parlor.

Philomena

1801 14th Avenue, Oakland, CA 94606

The breakfast pizza they have for brunch is fantastic.

Faction Brewing

2501 Monarch Street, Alameda, CA 94501

Beer is decent. View is incredible.

The Double Standard

2424 Telegraph Avenue, Oakland, CA 94612

Great cocktails and a nice outdoor seating area.

Mad Oak Bar ‘N’ Yard

135 12th Street, Oakland, CA 94607

Loud and crowded, but great drinks and a fun vibe if you don't mind a lot of people

Drake's Dealership

2325 Broadway, Oakland, CA 94612

Come for the beer, stay for the pizza and vibes. Located in uptown near lots of other bars, restaurants, and dessert spots (Humphrey Slocombe Ice cream and the "secret breakfast" is a tasty treat).

Westbrae Biergarten

1280 Gilman Street, Berkeley, CA 94706

We recommend the Sangria if they have it!

The Good Hop Bar & Bottle Shop

2421 Telegraph Avenue, Oakland, CA 94612

You can usually get Russian River Brewing beers here.

Telegraph

2318 Telegraph Avenue, Oakland, CA 94612

A great spot for drinks on a warm summer day!

Lake Merritt

Oakland, CA

Nice place to go on a walk or relax. Right by downtown.

1550 Wildcat Canyon Road, Berkeley, CA 94708

One of Ali's favorite spots to appreciate and learn about California's natural beauty.

Jack London Square

472 Water Street, Oakland, CA 94607

Waterfront views, restaurants, wineries, and a Sunday morning farmers market

Muir Woods National Monument

Mill Valley, CA 94941

A beautiful national park but you will need to make a reservation at gomuirwoods.com to ensure a parking spot.

Oakland Museum of California

1000 Oak Street, Oakland, CA 94607

Located near downtown and always has great exhibits. On Friday nights they have food trucks, drinks, and dancing!

Golden Gate Park

San Francisco, CA

One of our favorite parks to visit when Ali lived in San Francisco. Includes the DeYoung Museum, Conservatory of Flowers, California Academy of Sciences, rose garden, and other attractions.

Lake Chabot

CA

One of Andrew's favorite hikes; a less crowded option.

Marcus Book Stores

3900 Martin Luther King Junior Way, Oakland, CA 94609

Black owned bookstore and Oakland staple. Lots of radical reads.
