3 days or more The Douro valley is large, so consider coming before or after to explore more of the region. Last trip we stayed further up the river at Ventozelo and it was beautiful. You can consider booking a day tour through a travel company to explore a few different wineries. There are a few options where you boat up the Douro river. Many highlight restaurants in the region. One that we didn’t get a chance to try but was recommended highly by locals was Casa do Arco.
2-3 days or more If you have to pick between Porto and Lisbon for this trip, we’d pick Porto because it's close to the wedding. Lisbon is easier to get to from the states. Such a fun city to walk around and eat and drink. Visit the Port wine cellars in Vila Nova de Gaia and cross the iconic Dom Luís I Bridge. Highlight meal was at Taberna Dos Mercadores. Very small, cute, and they treated us like family. Seafood was to die for. We called for a reservation 30 days in advance.
2-3 days or more We took a pedicab tour through Airbnb experiences which is great if you want to learn about the history of the city. Ride the iconic Tram 28 and visit São Jorge Castle for panoramic views. Lunch or dinner at Taberna Sal Grosso Alfama. Incredible meat and seafood. It is a hole in the wall but very popular, so make reservations 30 days in advance.
