How We Met

We weren't supposed to meet. You see, she had only briefly reactivated her OkCupid account the day before, intending to deactivate it soon. I happened to see her profile, and the main things I remember are how pretty she was and her fantastic taste in music. I sent her a message, and by some chance of fate, out of the dozens of messages she was getting she decided to talk to me. She asked me to tell her 5 things about myself. I mentioned I like crazy socks and have a daughter named Nora. About this time, Dani is thinking that some friend is messing with her. She has a daughter named Nora. What are the odds some that random stranger has a kid named Nora too? I convinced her I was real, and we really start to hit it off. I was due to go to Dallas that weekend, so I didn't think we'd have a chance to actually meet until the next week. At the last minute, I asked her if she wanted to meet Friday evening for a quick drink. She agreed, with the understanding that she was going to a friend's house later and wouldn't be able to stay long. What followed was an amazing, magical 5 hours of conversation. It was like we had always known each other. The very next night, I called her at 9PM, a daily tradition we continued until moving in with other.

How He Proposed

Alex and I had planned a romantic little weekend trip to Marfa in May of last year. I just KNEW he was going to propose. I was so sure, I requested an extra day off to get my hair and nails done and pick out the perfect "she said yes" dress. Still being a few months away, I put our destination engagement to the back of mind while we geared up to move in together. It was March 17th, 2017. It was a Friday. It was St. Patrick's Day! We woke up early and I threw on my favorite ten year old St. Patty's Day thrift store shirt and a pair of jeans I wouldn't necessarily wear out to most places but would work fine for the long day of moving ahead of us. We loaded up the car, got the keys to OUR new place and headed over to wonder around what was going to be our new life together. After unpacking the first load, we stopped in the empty dinning area to complain about the day ahead and exchange excitement over what it meant. It was at that moment, Alex decided the time was right. He mumbled about starting a life together and how he couldn't think of a better time to... (I can't really hear him over my heart pounding and my mind exploding in overwhelming delight) I jumped on him and I think I said yes or some other form of approval. Briefly, I remember that I'm dirty, gross and wearing an outfit normal people would have separated off into the donate pile years ago and I get a little upset because this wasn't the proposal I was planning and ready for. But I quickly realized that it was actually the most perfect proposal I could have hoped for. It was genuine and legitimately caught me off guard. It was planned perfectly for me, not by me. He may not do everything I want, but he always knows what I need.
