Tulum and Travel

The Wedding Website of Natalie Castillo and Alex Hauck
(Try googling "maps of Tulum" to see a larger image. We recommend booking the area between Cabanas Tulum and La Zebra hotels.) There are so many amazing places to stay in Tulum! Essentially, there are three areas of Tulum- Tulum town, Upper Beachside Tulum, and Lower Beachside Tulum. Most of the wedding activities as well as the best stuff to do in Tulum is on the Lower beachside area. Tulum Town The inland area you see above, is one of the cheapest options for hotels, food, and shopping, but it is the furthest from the action (only accessible by bicycle, taxi, or scooter (if you have your motorcycle license). Upper Beachside Tulum Be aware that although this area is on the beach, it is about a 10-15 minute walk to the main area of town where the wedding will be held and most of the shopping, food, drinks, and activities are. Lower Beachside Tulum This is the area that we recommend you stay! There are beautiful hotels here and the wedding location is near.

Flight

Which Flight Should You Be On?

Obviously this depends on where you are coming from! However, if you are coming from Santa Barbara or LA, we recommend flying out on the 3rd and arriving in the early evening. We are arranging buses for easy travel from Cancun to Tulum. These haven't been set up quite yet because we want to hear from everyone what time you will all be arriving first. Mine and Alex's flights will be leaving LAX at 9:30 and landing at 4:10 in Cancun. Our return flights leave Cancun at 8:25 and land in LAX at 10:40. If you have questions about flights or hotels please reach out to us! We are happy to help.

Flight

Fly into Cancun

Travel to Tulum is fairly simple, but due to the 3 hour time change (for PST people), it becomes a full day to get there. Don't worry, you get the time back when you return home! Here are some details to help you get to where you're going-- 1. Fly into Cancun, Mexico. We recommend taking a morning flight out of LA (or wherever you are flying from) so you arrive in Tulum in time for dinner. It is about a 2 hour drive from the airport to Tulum. 2. We are in the process of booking shuttles from the airport to Tulum. Since we are still working this out we ask that you check back on this soon! We are trying to have shuttles running from Cancun to Tulum for the main flights coming in on the 3rd as well as shuttles leaving the 7th and the 10th.

Travel Note

Is your Passport current?

COVID IS AFFECTING PASSPORT RENEWAL. PLEASE CHECK AS THIS CAN TAKE WEEKS! This is something we have all forgotten to check on at some point. Please make sure that an expired passport doesn't affect your travel! If your passport is going to expire before our wedding, make sure that you get it renewed ASAP. It is one of those things that can take longer than expected to renew, so prepare accordingly.

Travel Note

Cash or Card?

Tulum is a veryyyy safe place, so feel free to bring a fat wad of cash and leave it in your hotel room and I will collect your keys for safety! (just kidding). The restaurants and bars accept credit cards just like here at home but the exchange rate is less favorable in the touristy areas so make your currency exchange AT THE AIRPORT. It is a better rate than in town. At any point you can exchange your cash in town as well. There are ATM's throughout Tulum that make it pretty seamless if you find you need more. Note- This is not a scam to get your money- it's just more work for them to take the cash to the bank outside Tulum so it's at a premium once you get to Tulu,I (That being said it's not so different that you should worry about it if you forget or need more cash from an ATM in town and every place we went takes American dollars as well.)

Hotel

Hotel Pointers

Tulum is an awesome. Make this a vacay! We recommend staying 4-7 nights. Most of the wedding party will be arriving the 3rd and leaving either the 7th or the 10th. We recommend looking for hotels on the beach as the beach area is where you will spend the majority of your time. The beach area is stunningly beautiful and this area has the best restaurants. Everything is basically in walking distance on the beach so you can avoid cab fare staying near the beach. The town is cheaper but not as sightly and you'll likely spend some coin on cabs or bike rentals. The wedding will be held at Ak'iin Beach Club, which is on the sand in the Lower Beachside area mentioned above. The wedding party will be staying near by at Nueva Vida De Ramiro on the beach. We highly recommend looking into all the hotels in the area and seeing which ones best meet your needs.
