Strap in. The name thing can be hard to follow. Galex was living in Denver and headed up the mountain to spend a week in Breckenridge. Her mom, sister, and best friend Kate joined for the weekend. Kate suggested that Galex try to find someone to take her on a date saying, "you'll never see him again," and when she shared the idea with Amy (Galex's mom), Amy suggested "that cute guy at the activities desk" (Balex). Reluctantly, Galex agreed, and Kate wrote Galex’s number on the back of Balex’s business card (when you get the chance, ask him about it). Within a minute of Balex being off work, Galex received a text message, and he asked to take her on a date the following night. They went to dinner at a restaurant called The Canteen, and it was a bit of a bust. The restaurant was so loud they couldn’t hear one another talk, and Balex ordered his meal with tomatoes because he couldn’t hear the waitress—he hates tomatoes and didn’t touch most of his meal. Nonetheless, the next day, the Alexes met up on the slopes, and Amy invited Balex to come inside for lunch. During lunch, Galex’s grandparents, Mimi and Papa, showed up and invited Balex to dinner. So let’s refresh, dinner setup by the best friend, lunch by the mom, and family dinner by the grandma, all within 24 hours. If not for Galex’s family, we’re not sure if we would have ever met, but it was the best decision Galex ever made to say yes to that text, and we’ve been together ever since.
After four years, a dog, a move from Colorado to Kansas City, some hints about wanting a ring, and many many adventures, the Alexes took off to the Dominican Republic, where Balex’s mom lives, to spend some time with his family over Christmas and New Year’s. At dinner one evening, Galex and Angel (Balex’s mom) were talking about their love for dancing, and Balex made it clear that he didn’t like to dance because he doesn’t think he is any good. Similarly, Balex was begging Galex to take kite surfing lessons-kite surfing has been a part of Balex’s life for nearly 20 years and he has been begging her since the inception of their relationship to learn as well. After careful consideration, the Alexes made a deal-Galex would take a minimum of 3 kite surfing lessons if Balex would take dance lessons. Four days later, Balex was down on one knee asking Galex to spend the rest of her life with him. Galex sure is happy Balex made a deal to take dance lessons because we are about to tear up that dance floor come September 2. In a few short months, there will be two Alex Lewins in this family, and we cannot wait to be able to celebrate our love with our favorite people!
