Flight
Our recommended flight is the direct route from Dallas–Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) to Leonardo da Vinci International Airport (FCO) in Rome. These flights typically depart DFW in the early evening and arrive in Rome the following morning. Travel time is 10 hours to Rome and 12 hours returning to Dallas. Traveling to Florence by High-Speed Train? If you pack light, traveling by high-speed train is one of the easiest and most enjoyable options. The journey from Rome to Florence takes approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes. Italy’s two high-speed rail providers, Trenitalia and Italo, both offer comfortable and reliable service with very similar experiences. When booking with Trenitalia, we recommend selecting a direct “Freccia” train with no transfers. Whether traveling with Trenitalia or Italo, your trip from Rome to Florence should take around 90 minutes. For the best balance of comfort and value, we suggest booking Business Class with Trenitalia or Prima Business with Italo. High-speed train service is also available from other major cities such as Venice and Milan. Traveling to Florence by Private Driver? Hiring a private driver is the most comfortable and personalized way to travel through Italy. Many drivers are happy to make a stop or two along the way so you can enjoy the beauty of the Tuscan countryside and its charming towns. There are many excellent transfer companies available, and a little research can go a long way in finding the right fit. Sharing a transfer with other guests can also be a wonderful and cost-effective option. Renting a Car in Italy? Renting a car from the Rome airport is another great option, and you’ll be driving on the same side of the road as in the United States. If you choose to drive, due to the jet lag, we highly recommend breaking up the drive with an overnight stay in a beautiful town such as Orvieto. From personal experience, this makes for a much more relaxing(and safe) start to your trip.
Train
Traveling by train in a foreign country can be confusing at first but once you've done it one time, it becomes very simple. You will arrive to the train station on your ticket 20 minutes before your departure time and look for the big electronic signs. You will typically be assigned a platform number 15 minutes or less before your departure time. The easiest way to identify your trip on the board is to find the "Train Number" on your ticket and match it to the board. The board will tell you which platform your train will be arriving at and you will make your way to that platform. Your ticket will have a "Carriage" or "Coach" number followed by a seat number which tells you which train car you will be on and which seat on that coach you are assigned to. The link below will take you to the TrenItalia booking site but booking through the company's app will be the most seamless option. Rental Car
While there are plenty of other rental car companies in Italy, Enterprise is the most familiar and has the biggest network when it comes to American brands. Hertz is also a well networked rental company in Italy. Renting a car from the Rome airport to travel through Italy is another great option, and you’ll be driving on the same side of the road as in the United States. Hotel
Of course, every guest will have a place at our villa from June 2nd to June 4th but we would like to provide some recommendations for the days leading up to and following our wedding. For a modern luxury stay, Hotel Calimala was one of our favorite stays during our trip to Florence in March of 2026. It was beautifully decorated, located in the city centre, and had a great rooftop restaurant. If you do not plan to be in Florence in the days leading up to the wedding, we highly recommend staying in Florence for at least one night on Tuesday, June 1st to make the trip to Villa Barberino the following day as smooth and relaxing as possible.
Hotel
Tivoli has on of the best, if not the best rooftop views in all of Florence and was a revolving destination for us during our most recent trip. The rooms are tastefully designed and the lobby is one of the prettiest we have seen. This is a great central location to explore the city and is very close to the main train station in Florence (0.3 mile walk). If you do not plan to be in Florence in the days leading up to the wedding, we highly recommend staying in Florence for at least one night on Tuesday, June 1st to make the trip to Villa Barberino the following day as smooth and relaxing as possible.
