Things To Do

Oglebay Good Zoo

345 Zoo Circle, Wheeling, WV 26003
, 304-243-4100

Of course, the couple's favorite zoo in Wheeling. Actually, its the only zoo in Wheeling, and the only AZA accredited zoo in all of West Virginia! If you have time while you're in town, it's a pretty small zoo and only takes ~1.5 hours to get through. Make sure to tell Decklyn after you visit that it would have been better if they had a room of model trains!

The Market Café

2200 Market Street, Wheeling, WV 26003
, 304-650-7501

This is where the couple had their first date, though just across the street at the original location. They still make a killer latte, and you might be able to drop by American Pies afterwards for a sweet treat. There's also a local art gallery in the same building, with a lot of affordable beautiful local art you can purchase.

Later Alligator

2145 Market Street, Wheeling, WV 26003
, 304-233-1606

This is a unique restaurant in the heart of Center Market in Wheeling that Alexis and Decklyn went on one of their earliest dates at. They have really great crepes, coffee, artichoke dip, and sandwiches. Alexis knew Decklyn was "the one" after she ordered the Lost Cow , which was really good... except for having blue cheese on it. She quickly learned she didn't like blue cheese, and Decklyn let her eat his Mac & Rib instead.

Kruger Street Toy and Train Museum

144 Kruger Street, Wheeling, WV 26003
, 304-242-8133

One of Alexis' favorite places in Wheeling. Model trains, K-nex rollercoasters, classic board games, and a Snoopy basement. What isn't there to love? She could spend the whole day there, but you could probably get through it in 1.5 hours.

DiCarlo's Pizza - Wheeling

1311 Main Street, Wheeling, WV 26003
, 304-233-0730

DiCarlos is an Ohio Valley staple, and you can find it anywhere along the Ohio River. People go crazy for it. In local Facebook groups, locals talk about driving it to their loved ones who moved away because they crave that pizza with cold cheese so badly. Give it a try. You might like it! There are a lot of locations, but this one is in downtown Wheeling near the waterfront and where the Nailers play local hockey.

Roxanne's Dried Flowers

2115 Penn Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15222
, 412-281-6950

Roxanne's is the best place for dried flowers in Pittsburgh. Alexis loves Roxanne's, and Decklyn likes to get her flowers there from time to time. If flowers aren't your thing, Roxanne's is in what Pittsburghers call The Strip District, and there's plenty to do there. From Grandpa Joe's candy shop to Posman Books, they've got it all. It's also not too far from Heinz History Museum, which is the only Smithsonian in Pittsburgh! If you are in the area and hungry, the bride and groom recommend Nova Asian Food Hall or Cafe Raymond, or maybe Coop de Ville if you are in the mood for an arcade, too.

National Aviary

700 Arch Street, Pittsburgh, PA 15212
, 412-323-7235

The National Aviary is right in Pittsburgh, an hour and 15 minutes from Wheeling. If you love birds like Decklyn does, this is a great spot to visit while you are here. It's the country's only non-profit zoo for birds, and it is AZA accredited! Nearby is Randyland, which is one of the bride's favorite not-so hidden gems in Pittsburgh. These are all also not too far from Roxanne's/the Strip, but definitely a little bit of a confusing drive for an out-of-towner. Maybe take an Uber!

Pittsburgh Zoo & Aquarium

7370 Baker Street, Pittsburgh, PA 15206
, 412-665-3640

A nearby AZA zoo and aquarium in Pittsburgh, if you're trying to get some zoo creds. It's a lot of walking, so make sure you've got good shoes!

Kennywood Park

4800 Kennywood Boulevard, West Mifflin, PA 15122
, 412-461-0500

One of Alexis' favorite places in the area. If opening day is the same weekend it was in 2026, you might be able to make a visit during your trip! The Phantom's Revenge and Jack Rabbit are renown coasters, consistently rated well by rollercoaster fans across the United States.

Carnegie Museum of Art

4400 Forbes Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15213
, 412-622-3131

The Carnegie Museum of Art is where the bride and groom had their third date, and where they got their engagement pictures taken! They are members of the Carnegie museum system and love to visit. The Carnegie Museum of Art is especially a favorite because it allows for access to the Museum of History as well for free. The two are combined in one building. Alexis likes the art, while Decklyn likes the fossils. The exhibits are often short-lived, which allows for a new experience every visit. It's near Phipps Botanical Garden, which is also a favorite spot of the couple. Schenley Park is also nearby if you're craving some green while in the city. Make sure to keep an eye out for spotted lantern flies!

Lowkey Taco

690 Chauvet Drive, Pittsburgh, PA 15275
, 412-249-8675

The best taco spot in the area, hands down. Definitely out of the way, definitely worth the drive. Get the Cluck Norris. You won't regret it.

Coopers Rock

61 County Line Dr., Bruceton Mills, WV 26525

A long drive from Wheeling, but really good hiking for anyone so inclined trying to use up PTO. Morgantown is nearby and is also very close to Alexis' heart, if you're looking for any recommendations.
