Since 1991, Melanie's Food Fantasy has operated as a meeting place for great food, conversation, and atmosphere. Alexis has spent many mornings eating breakfast here with her ski team friends. While the bride is getting ready, you can enjoy a cup of coffee before heading out for a hike to burn off the delicious mushroom gravy you've just consumed.
GUYS!!!! This is my most favorite restaurant ever. All of my friends know I'm really not a red meat eater. However, I went to this place three times in one weekend... it's just that good. Please do me and yourself a favor and dip your fries in come back sauce. Free drinks at the wedding to all that have been to Come Back Shack. Just kidding, we all know it's an Open Bar.
While you’re spending the day in Boone, stop by Our Daily Bread for delicious sandwiches, salads and soups. If the line is out the door, don’t worry! It moves quickly and the Smoked Ham Brie Croissant is 100% worth the wait. After you grab lunch, head across the street to Mast General Store to pick your favorite candies for dessert!
This hike may seem a little out of the way; however, everyone needs to ride on this portion of the Blue Ridge Parkway. This relatively easy hike is 1.2 miles up and back. Rough Ridge offers some of the most amazing views including the famous Linn Cove Viaduct on the Blue Ridge Parkway. Alexis first did this hike when she was three... someone's got brave parents. This ledge is what inspired the Lion King. Just kidding; however, the photo is of Alexis and Tucker.
"Drink Local" at Appalachian Mountain Brewery located in Boone. Their award-winning beers and ciders are sure to impress! Living in the land of the long leaf pine, try a taste of the Long Leaf IPA. Go hang out in the tasting room or outdoor seating area near Boone Creek and play cornhole and listen to live music. AMB is an excellent way to finish a hike, ya know if you're into that sort of thing.
The original Mast General Store is located in Valle Crucis (about 30 minutes from Blowing Rock) but there's a closer store in Boone. Step back in time when you visit the store, recognized by the National Register of Historic Places as one of the best remaining examples of an old country general store. The original Mast General Store was opened in 1883. Today, it is home to a collection of clothing, outdoor gear, and (our favorite) an endless collection of candy.
Foggy Rock is an amazing restaurant for lunch or dinner. It is close to the venue and most of the hotels. Tell Yvonne, the owner, that The Everetts' sent you!
The Village Cafe is a hidden gem, literally hidden, in downtown Blowing Rock, near many of the suggested hotels. If you park by Kilwin's (we know you'll stop by after brunch) walk down the narrow pathway beside the ice cream shop through the secret garden. Anne, the owner, will seat you. When you call for reservations just say The Everetts' sent you!
Located in downtown Blowing Rock, this sweet shop is the perfect stop for a warm day. We would recommend sampling their homemade fudge, watching them make a few treats, and then grabbing a scoop of ice cream.
It seems like there are endless things to do at Grandfather Mountain. A true landmark of a pioneering spirit, the Mile High Swinging Bridge welcomes all visitors to admire 360-degree panoramic views from Grandfather Mountain. Grandfather Mountain has 11 trails varying in difficulty from a gentle walk in the woods to a rigorous trek across rugged peaks. Download the Grandfather Mountain Trail Map beforehand. Visit the seven Environmental Habitats to see cougars, white-tailed deer, black bears, bald eagles and river otters. There’s also a nature museum and a fudge shop!
