All air passengers 2 years or older, regardless of vaccination status or citizenship, with a flight departing to the United States from a foreign country are required show a negative COVID-19 viral test (PCR or Antigen and can be approved at-home/self tests ) result taken no more than ONE day before travel, or documentation of having recovered from COVID-19 in the past 90 days, before they board their flight. Air passengers will also be required to confirm in the form of an attestation that the information they present is true. This information is always evolving - please check back frequently.
At this time no COVID19 testing or proof of vaccination is required.
There are multiple options available. It largely depends on individual preference and the flights available from your town. If there are easy flights to the closer airports (QRO,BJX), we would recommend taking that route. Mexico City may be the cheaper option for those traveling on a budget but it does require a 3.5 hour car ride (see note under the travel tab for more info). Finally, be aware that wherever your first arrival point in Mexico is, is where you will have to go through customs. This means, if your layover is in Mexico City, you will need to claim your bags and navigate the large & busy Mexico City airport to board your connecting flight.
NO. Please make sure you drink only purified or bottled water. We also recommend using purified water for brushing your teeth. Washing veggies and fruits with tap water might be okay but make sure it has completely dried off before consuming. Most restaurants and bars use purified water for ice but we recommend always double checking with your server. A rule of thumb is that is that ice from filtered water is cylindrical with a hole down the middle.
Absolutely! San Miguel de Allende is known for its ex-pat community, primarily from the US, Canada, and Europe. This is a considerable income source for San Miguel de Allende. The city is smart. If ex-pats don’t feel safe living there, they won’t come, buy property, and spend money. If the city wants to protect one of its biggest income sources, it must make it a safe place for people to live. Solo travelers (including solo female travelers) are common in San Miguel.
No. Although we love the kiddos, this is an adult only event.
San Miguel is a very walkable city, you can get to most places by walking within 20 minutes. All the streets in San Miguel are cobblestone and the city has a lot of hills so comfortable shoes are recommended for getting around. If you do want a taxi they are green cabs and very cheap ($1-2 USD).
The weather is usually dry and sunny year-round, however, at 6,000+ feet, the temperature swings significantly from the morning to midday and again in the evenings. Please apply sunscreen and wear hats before even stepping out for coffee.
