Things To Do in Chicago

We lived in Chicago, in the Hyde Park neighborhood, for about 10 years, and we are excited to share the area with you! If you have free time during the week, we encourage you to check out the beaches, parks, museums, etc. If you want food recommendations, let us know.

57th Street Beach

57th street beach, Chicago, IL 60637

Want to go to the beach during the day before our evening events? The 57th Street beach is in Hyde Park and is walkable! There is free street parking around 56th St. and S. Everett Ave. Or, there's a pay-to-park lot at 5575 S South Shore Dr, Chicago, IL 60615. Then you'll walk through the underpass that goes under Lake Shore Drive and the beach will be on your right.

Maggie Daley Park

337 East Randolph Street, Chicago, IL 60601
, (312) 552-3000

This is a great park for kids (or adult kids), connected to Millennium Park (for your iconic photo next to The Bean sculpture). There's cool playground equipment and it's right downtown, between the lake and the skyscrappers. It's not in Hyde Park. It's downtown, about a 15 minute drive from Hyde Park. You can also take the Metra train to Millennium Station or the #6 bus up Michigan Ave.

Museum of Science & Industry

5700 S. Lake Shore Drive, Chicago, IL 60637

Best museum for kids and adults OF ALL AGES. They have interactive weather exhibits, a smart house, a U boat submarine, trains, human bodies, doll houses, live hatching chicks, etc. etc.

Millennium Park free concert on Wednesday, August 3rd

201 E Randolph St, Chicago, IL 60601

Attending the free classical music concerts in Millennium Park is our favorite summer activity in Chicago!!! If you're in town Wednesday evening, August 3rd, join us at 6pm for a picnic on the lawn at the Pritzker Pavilion in Millennium Park, downtown Chicago.

Obama's Neighborhood

5285 S. Dorchester Ave., Chicago, IL 60615

You can drive by the Obamas' house in Hyde Park, on the corner of E. Hyde Park Blvd and S. Greenwood Ave. You can also see a rock on 53rd Street and Dorchester where Michelle and Barack went on their first date and had their first kiss.

For all the days along the way
