There are a handful of restaurants and shops right within town and all within a walking distance (we like food from Pots & Bowls and coffee from the surf shop). There is also a yoga studio, an outdoor gym and a spa if you are looking for something relaxing or a way to exercise. There are two beaches - one immediately outside the hotel, and another accessible by a short hike away. The hotel will provide beach towels, and if you want to rent a beach chair you can do so from Pura Vida Surf Shop.
There are five trails around the town designated for hiking. These paths traverse the waterfront and head up to some of the highest points in Las Catalinas, with numerous lookouts and the chance to encounter birds and other wildlife. You can walk to them from the hotel, no car needed. You MUST NOT challenge Alex to a trail race on our wedding weekend. PLEASE. PLEASEEEEE.
Located on a bluff overlooking the beach, Las Catalinas Beach Club is a great spot for classily getting drunk, relaxing at a pool, and access to a gym. FYI our hotel also has a small pool on the roof. The beach club costs extra to access, but you get a discounted rate as our guest. Feel free to inquire at our hotel's front desk!
If you want to rent paddle boards, surf boards or any other beach/water sport equipment you can do it by the hour from the Pura Vida surf shop right outside the hotel. Exit hotel from beach facing side, and you will see it immediately on the right. This surf shop also happens to be the best coffee in town :) and trust us, we tried every coffee spot in a 10 mile radius.
Want to feel the rush of tropical air breeze through your pits? Costa Rica is known for its zip lining through its tropical forests. If you are interested in booking this, please reach out to the hotel and they will help organize everything including a shuttle to/from hotel.
If you have time for an extra meal and looking for something spectacular, we recommend taking a hike to Sentido Norte located in the Casa Chameleon hotel at the top of the hill. The views are amazing (especially sunset) and the cocktails are killer. The walk is entirely uphill (with some lack of sidewalks at the end), so you can also request a golf cart pickup. Either way, don't forget your deodorant for this journey to some great food.
Can't get enough of Costa Rica like us? If you're planning a trip around the wedding, we highly recommend visiting Tamarindo, Nosara, or Santa Teresa for more relaxing surf towns, and La Fortuna/Arenal for volcano hiking and hot springs.
