Steve captivated Alex with his directness and hilarious sense of humor; while Alex impressed Steve with her quick and witty rebuttals. Their playful banter escalated and he finally asked her on a date. He said, "What do you have to lose? If anything, you'll get a free meal out of it." Scruffy Murphy's Irish Bar, in Columbus, GA, will always be one of Alex and Steve's favorite places. For it was there that their first date turned into a second, then a third, and then forever. Through the laughing and the flirting, Steve and Alex realized they also shared a lot of common interests and beliefs. After their first date, they've only had eyes for each other; and well, you get the picture;)

On a Saturday morning, just like any other (or so Alex thought), Steve suggested they begin their day at The Market on Broadway in downtown Columbus. Steve knows Alex loves going there to look at all the handmade soaps, jewelry, and homemade food, so he knew she'd agree. After a couple hours of walking around The Market, they decided to head over to The River Walk, a gorgeous bike and walking path next to The Chattahoochee River. Hand in hand, Steve led Alex out to this little island that overlooks the rapids. He turned her towards him and said, "Do you remember me talking about that poem I've been writing for you? Well, I finished it." From his pocket, Steve pulled out the heartfelt poem he'd saved for this very moment and began reading it to her. Once he finished, he said, "And I have something else for you." Alex could not stop smiling. She could tell from the look in his eyes what was about to happen. Steve got down on one knee with ring in hand and asked, "Alexandra Marie Rees, will you marry me?" Without hesitation, Alex answered, "Yes, of course!"
