It was a cold night in downtown Minneapolis. Mahlon was spending the night out on the dance floor (per usual) with a group of friends at Seven Ultra Lounge. Across the way at Union Bar & Grill, Alexandra was with two of her sisters and friends celebrating her sister's birthday. Before ending their night, Alexandra and her sisters decided to make one more stop, Seven Ultra Lounge. Things were about to heat up! Once at Seven, Alexandra, along with everyone she came with, made their way to the dance floor. As everyone began to couple up, Alexandra made her way towards the bar. Before making it off the dance floor, Mahlon spots her. He thinks to himself "That's the girl who works at the bar." Alexandra was working as a bartender at Imperial Room when Mahlon first laid eyes on her a few weeks back. Captivated by her beauty, he resisted the urge to approach her while she worked. Well work wouldn't get in the way tonight. Mahlon quickly approached Alexandra with a big smile and asked "You want to dance?" Alexandra responded by saying, "Lets get a drink first." It was instant chemistry. Mahlon and Alexandra had never made it back to the dance floor that night. They spent the rest of the night at the bar talking. Once the lights came on, Mahlon asked for and received Alexandra's number. The two parted ways with smiles on their faces. Unfortunately, not much came of that night. Weeks of informal communication left Alexandra to believe shivery was dead. From your typical "Hey, what's up?" to "What are you doing today?" text messages from Mahlon, Alexandra’s hopeless romantic vision began to fade along with her responses. Months passed with no communication, that was until another night out with friends in March (at Seven) would have their paths crossing once again. This time Mahlon wouldn't make the same mistake twice, the very next day he called Alexandra to schedule their first official date and the rest is history.

Alexandra and Mahlon had already spent a little over a year apart in their long distance relationship, Alexandra in California and Mahlon in Minnesota. Fortunately, Alexandra had made plans to take a trip back to Minnesota for their anniversary. Mahlon decided that would be the trip he proposed. After receiving the blessing from Alexandra's parents, the proposal was around the corner. It was a couple days after Alexandra & Mahlon's fourth anniversary, Mahlon organized a dinner with a few friends and family at The Oceanaire in downtown Minneapolis. Mahlon's twin brother Michael, was the only person who knew what was about to happen. He was given the task of recording the events to come and was anxiously awaiting the verbal queue. The group was casually conversing and placing their food and drink orders, when Mahlon gave the queue, "I have to go to the restroom!" While in the restroom, Mahlon took a deep breathe to try and rid his last minute nerves and butterflies, as he knew the next chapter in his life was right outside the door. After pulling himself together, Mahlon finally emerged from the restroom and headed back towards the dinner table. With the engagement ring in his pocket and Micheal recording, Mahlon enacted his rehearsed trip and landed right behind Alexandra's chair. At that moment, Alexandra's sister Antoinette gestures to her to cut Mahlon off, as she believed his fall was due to the drinks that had been ordered earlier. As everyone looked over confused, Alexandra made sure Mahlon was okay while simultaneously motioning to him to stand up. Secretly she was hoping he was coherent enough to pick himself up on his own. Instead he sits up on one knee with a shining ring in his hand. Alexandra's jaw drops! After expressing his love for her he asks "Will You Marry Me?" Alexandra responded with a "Yes."
