How we met

June 4th, 2018

It was a cozy Sunday at the library, at least, that's our cover story. What actually happened is we both swiped right on Bumble. We met up at the Brickstore Pub in Decatur (after Lucy thoroughly briefed her roommate and had a plan for him to call the police if she wasn't home by 10pm, SSDGM right?) and had the best date of our lives. We must have talked at the bar for 2-3 hours before heading over to the Decatur Courthouse Steps for some people watching and good, old fashioned making out. Neither of us had any expectations for what would happen, but it soon became clear that we were the same type of weird and Little Buddy's (our cat child) approval sealed the deal.

The proposal

November 14th, 2020

Alex had grand plans for the proposal....then COVID happened. He'd had the ring for over a year and a half and finally decided he couldn't *not* be engaged any longer. He inconspicuously suggested he and Lucy enjoy a date night at the Decatur Square. Lucy didn't suspect anything, since Alex had mentioned a few weeks back wanting to grab a drink at Brickstore and enjoy a casual evening out. It was a surprisingly mild day and we enjoyed a drink at one of the outdoor tables at Brickstore. Lucy wanted to stop at Jeni's and Alex suggested stopping at the courthouse steps, our frequently visited spot, along the way. It was close to sunset and Lucy was looking up at the courthouse columns commenting on how pretty the sunlight looked on them. When she looked back at Alex, he was getting down on one knee! Alex was so casual about the whole afternoon, that Lucy didn't suspect a thing and was taken completely by surprise. So much so that she didn't notice Alex's friend, Sean taking pictures the whole time. Alex's friend, Eric was also secretly nearby and the four of us got to have a good laugh when it was all said and done. Lucy wasn't ready to go home, but Alex said "We have to tell the cats!", which was good enough reason for Lucy to, once again, unsuspectingly walk into another one of Alex's surprises. When we got home, Alex had Lucy close her eyes and when she opened them, our friends Cody, Sidnei, Sylvia, Will, Seth, and Markie were all on a Zoom call ready to congratulate and celebrate with us, complete with champagne in Alex's mom's crystal champagne flutes. Despite the original plan being an elaborate one, the actual proposal was perfect and neither of us would change a thing about it!
