Union Market was formally known as Union Terminal Market when it started as a replacement market center for the old Center Market located near the mall in 1931. Now, Union Market's been re-fab'd as the home of tons of food and drink kiosks, with little shops along the way. It's a great way to spend a Saturday or Sunday morning or early afternoon.
If you want to get out in nature and walk around its beautiful grounds, check out the National Arboretum. The Arboretum grounds are open every day of the year. The National Bonsai & Penjing Museum is open from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. daily except for federal holidays. The Bonsais are the coolest and while your'e up that way, walk around the Ivy City neighborhood. Hip, industrial section of town.
