July 28, 2016 was the grand finale of the Cheyenne Frontier Days carnival, but little did we know this date would mark the beginning of our story. Keely had been going to the carnival every night with her friends, and this day would be the last night they could all go. There was a thunderstorm that afternoon and, as Keely had learned from the previous four days, most of her friends were more interested in idle chit-chat than the carnival rides. One of Keely’s friends was even boasting about bringing “David Alex,” who Keely thought would be two boys who would also rather stand around. Because of these factors, Keely had to be begged to even go to the carnival that night. When everyone arrived at the carnival, Keely was surprised to learn that “David Alex” was not two boys, but instead one very charming boy in a quirky graphic tee. She also learned that he goes by “just Alex.” As expected, the girls hovered around talking about nothing, but then, Alex popped the question – not the forever kind, but whether Keely would join him on the Super Shot. This was the only ride Keely had not been on because it was too intimidating, but she would rather face her fears than stand around and do nothing. After the ride ended, Keely got off shaking yet trying to play it cool in hopes of impressing Alex. We spent the rest of the night riding carnival rides and getting to know each other. At the end of the night, Alex slid into Keely’s Instagram DMs and said, “Hey, it was nice meeting you tonight, I had a blast. You had fun on that ride yo. At least a little bit.” Alex’s infectious energy and playful message compelled Keely to respond. We have talked every day since. On August 10, 2016, Alex officially asked Keely to be his girlfriend. In 2019, Alex took Keely on a “graduation” trip to Florida, which was actually an engagement trip. Now, five years post-engagement, we are eagerly anticipating our wedding day. We can’t wait to celebrate with all of our friends and family, creating new memories that will become part of our story.
