In 2010, after a brief stint working in Chicago after college, Katie moved to New York City for her job in Investment Banking. In 2012, after a brief training program in Chicago, Alex moved to New York City for his job in Investment Banking. Despite living in the same city, and working in the same industry, our paths never crossed. In March of 2016, Katie took a new job that brought her out to San Francisco. In March of 2016, Alex took a new role with his company that brought him out to San Francisco. Despite living in the same city, and working in the same industry, our paths still never crossed. Then just by random chance in 2018, we connected on a dating app. Alex suggested a couple of places to meet for the first date, and Katie picked the one place we had both never been to, The Rusted Mule (spoiler alert: it’s now been closed for years). Subscribing to the Tom Coghlin school of punctuality, Alex arrived 10 minutes early and subscribing to her own school of punctuality, Katie arrived 10 minutes “fashionably late”. The bar was huge…and also empty (no surprise that it went out of business). After some great conversation and mediocre Old Fashioneds and tequila sodas, we both knew that we wanted to get to know each other better. Almost five years later, we still feel that same spark from our first date. And not only have we found our forever partner in one another, but also our best friend. We’ve created so many memories together: countless date nights (with much improved tequila and bourbon), weekends in Napa, tropical vacations, ski trips, twenty seasons of Law & Order reruns, and a trip to the NBA finals (Katie finally got her ring!) . We are so excited for this next chapter in our journey and are counting down until we can celebrate and create more memories with our closest friends and family!
