How We MetHow We Met

Aug 2017...First comes school, then comes marriage

We first officially met each other at dental school standing in line for a pre-orientation drug test (very romantic). Josh first saw Alex's "crazy arms" later that day during a school mixer and was immediately smitten. We later grew our budding friendship playing ping-pong in the school basement (also very romantic). As our friendship grew we realized we had a lot in common. We spent numerous hours sitting next to each other in lectures/labs since we were assigned our seats alphabetically. This was the first time in Alex's life that she had been happy that her last name started with a "W". Their relationship became official at the dental school gala, where Josh walked in while Alex was stuffing her face with cheese and realized she was the one. They danced all night and the next day, went on their first date at the "Truck Yard" in Dallas. Shortly after Josh moved in with Alex and they were inseparable.

Our dating lifeOur dating life

December 2017-April 2023

Alex and Josh continued to grow their relationship while juggling their studies, graduating dental school, and more importantly improving their ping pong skills. When not in school, they enjoyed going out to their favorite Dallas restaurants (Tacos La Banqueta, Pluckers, and Cremona Bistro--their annual Valentine's Day/anniversary spot). One of their favorite trips together was to Mendocino, CA where they rode horses down a mountain/along the beach, praying that Josh's 24 year old horse, Charlie, could make it down the hill in one piece. Charlie retired the next day. In the year 2020, the dental school shut down (like the rest of the world) which gave Alex and Josh lots of time to understand what their future lives will look like (lots of puzzles, board games, and Alex falling asleep while trying to finish movies). In their last year of dental school on October 18, 2020 Alex's father passed away which really put into perspective what a relationship is all about...support, empathy, and kindness. Shortly after Alex and Josh decided to add a furry friend to their family to lift their spirits. They found this in a white/grey cat named Jaxx that they adopted in March 2021. They *finally* graduated dental school and spent a year apart as both completed separate dental residencies in different states (Colorado and Illinois). They decided that Colorado would be their next stop where they could continue to do all their favorite things...exploring the mountains, going to new restaurants, and playing Pickleball.

The ProposalThe Proposal

April 7th 2023...#mrsontheway

After 5 years of dating, Josh finally put a ring on it in a plan that involved both Alex's & Josh's families, friends, and some careful scheming. After securing a ring and carefully planning a mani-pedi session with Alex's friends, the plot began. The day began with an afternoon of open house "shopping", one of the couples favorite weekend pastimes. Josh used the white lie of a reservation at one of their favorite restaurants, "Restaurant Olivia", as an excuse to dress up. Little did Alex know there would be a planned gap from when they ended looking at houses to dinner where a small hike at Mount Falcon would be perfect! The couple drove up to the west trailhead parking lot while Alex took in the views and Josh attempted to hide his growing nerves. After taking a short walk down the trail, they stopped at an overlook where Josh would get on one knee and ask the most important question of his life: "Alex, will you marry me?" The answer of course was yes and the rest is history.
