Ohrid's old town charms with history, cute cafes and restaurants, nice little shops and old houses adorned with vibrant flowers that match the turqoise blue of the lake. We've linked a little Youtube video here so you can get some impressions of Ohrid.
A particular shoutout to the lake that deserves its own argument, because it is truly a natural gem. Check out some of the pictures online and see for yourself! While the lake always maintains a slightly cool temperature, you'll want to make use of it when you're sizzling away at the beach. You can take a boat taxi in the old town that will get you to any of the favourite beaches. Some of our favourite beaches: 1) Beach by the hotels Metropol/Granit 2) Lagadin 3) Gradiste 4) Trpejca 5) St. Naum beach
The Amphitheatre dates back to Roman times and was excavated in the 1980s. It's within walking distance from the old town.
The fortress overlooks the city and dates back to 400 years B.C., built under Tsar Samuil.
One of the most popular photos you will see from Ohrid is of this church that overlooks the lake. The church can be reached by foot from the old town. Check out the link below for more info on historical churches in and around Ohrid.
After you've visited the church of St. John (on the cliff above the lake), it's only a short walk to the site of St. Clement, which also features some historic excavations as well as great photos at sunset!
St. Naum monastery is a 20min drive away from Ohrid along the lake and borders Albania. While the monastery sits on an elevation above the lake, below, behind the shores of the lake, are the gorgeous natural springs (pictured here) where our reception party will take place. You can tour the springs in a small boat and enjoy the small boutique shops in the area after your monastery visit.
Remains of an old settlement were found in the lake and used to reconstruct it, which is now also a museum.
