La Brea Tar Pits and Museum
Great spot to take kids to see the tar pits, an ongoing excavation site, and a museum of some of the animal's whose fossils have been found in the pits. Also LACMA is right next to it, so you can check both out at once if you want.

Los Leones is a moderate hike with some beautiful views.

Iconic landmark with great views, hiking around it, and an astronomy museum inside! It's on the other side of town, so you can make a day of it.

This art museum is a recreation of a Roman Villa excavated in Pompeii, and has beautiful views. There are a variety free guided tours every half hour. Admission is free, you only pay for parking.
