Thankfully, our wedding is still on, following Florida’s guidelines. There are <100 guests attending and the entire event will be held outdoors. Importantly, the City of Key West currently has a strict mask mandate. Everyone in the city must be wearing a mask when they leave their residence/hotel/etc. until they reach their destination (e.g., sitting at a restaurant or bar). Aka, walking around the streets of Key West will require a mask. We ask that all of our guests respect this mandate, as we are guests of the city. When we visited in August, we saw people receive fines for not complying. The good news is this means all businesses are allowed to be open! Because our wedding is a private event, the mask mandate does NOT apply. Once you’re on Hemingway House property, you may wear (or not) your mask at your discretion. We ask that you use common sense & decency and PLEASE do not attend our wedding (or any related gatherings) if you are experiencing coronavirus symptoms.
Our ceremony, cocktail hour and reception will all be held at the historical Hemingway House in Key West, Florida.
The wedding will start at 6:00pm sharp. Guests should plan to arrive at the Hemingway House at 5:45pm. Sunset is at 6:12pm on the day of our wedding, so we will be unable to delay the ceremony for any late guests. We appreciate your promptness and helping our big day run smoothly!
Check out the Travel page of our website! We listed a number of the places we’ve stayed in Key West and would recommend.
Generally no. Key West is known for its walk-ability. All our recommended lodging is walking distance to the Hemingway House. There is also a free bus system called Duval Loop. Bicycles are available to rent as well as tickets for the city trolley. Key West does have Uber, although the rates are higher than what is typical in the Midwest. Please note if you do bring a car, parking is generally minimal. There is not a parking lot at the Hemingway House (wedding venue).
Casual dress. Men feel free to wear shorts or slacks and a polo. Women something like a sundress is fine. We want everyone to be comfortable. As a general statement, there’s a lot of walking in Key West, so plan footwear accordingly. Please no jeans or t-shirts.
No. Most lodging options are 0.5 mile or less from the Hemingway House.
Please plan to attend our wedding with only the people listed on your invitation. The Hemingway House has a strict guest limit so there will not be an extra chair for anyone not on the RSVP list. The wedding ceremony and reception are adult only.
Yes, this question sounds odd out of context. The Hemingway Home is home to nearly 60 of the famous Six-Toed Cats. That being said, yes, those with cat allergies should be perfectly fine at our wedding. We’ve spoken with representatives from the Hemingway House and they have never had a wedding attendee need to leave because of allergies. While it’s likely you will see cats on the property, most of them (and corresponding dander) reside inside the house. Ceremony, cocktail hour and reception will take place outdoors (or under a large tent in the event of rain).
