Warrenton gained notoriety after the Civil War the workplace of many of the country’s most brilliant attorneys. None other than Chief Justice John Marshall, whose opinion in Marbury v. Madison cemented the Supreme Court’s role as the authoritative interpreter of the law, began his storied legal career in Warrenton. Now, Warrenton is known by locals as horse country. Some of the nation’s earliest horse shows and hunts were held in Warrenton. There is a quaint, historic downtown with shops, restaurants and an irish pub.
