Minutes after hearing about a crime, two police officers stop a car that matches the description of the two alleged perpetrators. The two juveniles are wearing rave clothing and admit to having party drugs. In court, they claim that the police lacked probable cause to arrest them. That was the case that brought Alex and Dehmeh together as first-year law students in Legal Writing at Notre Dame Law. Dehmeh represented the police, arguing that they had every right to stop and arrest the kids. Alex represented the party-goers, arguing that the police had no probable cause to even conduct a stop, and even less to begin the line of questioning that led to the drug admission. We never found out who won the argument (but most likely, it was Alex.) They have their differences. He’s quiet and reserved. She’s the life of the party. He’s from the East coast. She’s from the Midwest. He’s a jock and a frat guy. She’s a lover of the arts and a creative. He’s anti-trust, she’s litigation. But their mutual love of Kendrick Lamar, comedy, dogs, and dancing in bars helped them overcome those differences. Now, everyone who knows them would agree that all of the things that make them different are what make them perfectly compatible. What they thought was just a law-school fling turned into a life. They packed up and moved to DC to be where the laws are. Oh and speaking of dogs, did you know they have one of those? In a show of respect and admiration, he proposed to her in a way that was close to her heart: rewriting the lyrics to a song from the movie Coco. And equally important to him, even though she hates it, she lets him watch every Virginia Tech, Notre Dame, and Manchester United game on the big screen (though, still with the sound off). And while nothing makes them happier than a night in on the couch trying to decide what to watch, they couldn't be more excited to spend a night partying with their dearest friends and family in Virginia wine country. #AlexPleadsTheSmith
