How We Met

2.6.16

Mutual friends of ours had gotten engaged and were out to celebrate. We each got invited to join in the festivities. Colin was unaware that I recognized him from across the room. I knew his parents from working at Kenwood Country Club a few years before. We spoke briefly that night but nothing more. A week later, Colin ran into our newly engaged friends again and asked my friend Lindsey for my number. He blew it the first time, but God gave him a second chance. Another week later we went on our first date and the rest is history! -Alex

The Proposal

12.2.17

One Saturday in December I suggested that we go for breakfast at a familiar spot near Washington Park. I told Alex that we should go to the new Cincinnati Shakespeare Theatre after we ate, and that they had a special “Christmas Display” we would enjoy. I told her about Music Hall putting out a special ornament every year and that all the ornaments from years past would be on display at the Shakespeare Theatre. I’ve been known to tell a good story, but I simply needed a reason for her to walk through the park in December. We walked from breakfast down along the park and before crossing to go to the theatre, I told Alex that I had to ‘use the restroom’. In the men’s room waiting with a smile and a camera (odd to picture, but true) was my friend Max. The camera was to capture the moment later, but the meeting was for Max to hand off the ring! They make those darned boxes too big these days… but I digress. I left the restroom with a “good luck” from my friend and walked towards the park with Alex as Max snuck around the back of the building to get into place for pictures. As we reached the Gazebo in the middle of the park, I stopped her and said “we are actually not going to the Shakespeare Theatre today because I have something I want to ask you…” What I said next is sappy and sweet and secret, but I eventually asked her to marry me. Through tears and surprise, she said yes! -Colin
