Our wedding venue is the beautiful, bespoke Mount Tom House, a place that is uniquely Oregon, nestled on 200 acres in the forest of the Willamette Valley.
The year is 2020. The world is flipped upside down by the COVID-19 pandemic, the great state of Oregon is being ravaged by wildfires, and just about everything in life feels as far from normal as possible. With the world of Oregon Athletics screeching to a halt due to the pandemic, Alex - who was then working as a freelance broadcaster and production member - reached out to a former colleague and then-owner of a local 9-hole golf course, Laurelwood. Alex merely hoped to pick up one shift a week in the pro shop, pro bono, only asking for free golf in return. The owner, kindly but directly, responded that hiring an employee to work in his pro shop without paying him would *technically* be illegal, but not to fear, and that he'd find some work for him while Oregon Athletics remained in an indefinite pause (and yes, free golf was included with the paycheck). Fast forward a few months, and in strolls Caroline Lombardi to Laurelwood, also looking for some light work in the pro shop as she finished up her degree at the University of Oregon chasing her dream of being the world's next great architect. The two began working together, sharing shifts, and often staying long after their respective shifts were over to keep one another company in the pro shop. Work shifts graduated into a few rounds on the golf course, which then graduated to a few pints in the pub upstairs, and even the occasional drive to Autzen Stadium for COVID testing when the romance really started to pick up. From there, the rest is history. Out of one of the wildest, craziest, and darkest moments in recent history, our love grew in an incredibly improbable yet spectacularly beautiful way. Nearly half-a-decade later, the two share a dog, Kevin (who is a very good boy), their dream first home located on the outskirts of Eugene/Springfield, and a future that will unquestionably be full of fun, laughter, and love. We are so, so excited to celebrate the beginning of the rest of our lives together with you all, and we truly wouldn't be where we are, who we are, or going where we are without you all. Here's to improbable love stories, happy endings, and all the madness and mayhem that happens in between!
