A henna artist will be available from 6:00pm to 9:00pm to apply henna on hands. Please let us know of any food restrictions.

Vatna Party

Casual Attire: Anything goes, from sundresses and sandals to jeans and tees.

Vatna involves applying a mask made from turmeric powder and mustard oil all over the bride and groom's bodies by relatives to brighten the skin in preparation for the wedding. Light snacks will be provided.

Pre Wedding Baraat and Milni

Conservative Formal Attire: Punjabi Salwar Kameez, Lehenga, and Long Sleeve Shirts, Pants, and Long Skirts (shoulders and legs should be covered). Comfortable attire for sitting on the ground outdoors.

The groom's entrance is referred to as the Baraat. The groom arrives at the ceremony site accompanied by friends and family in lively celebration. During the Milni (meeting of families), the bride's family welcomes the family and a short Ardaas (prayer) is recited. Both families have snacks and tea before the ceremony starts. The bride's family will be waiting at the tables adjacent to the ceremony site for the baraat to arrive.

Anand Karaj Wedding Ceremony

The Anand Karaj is the formal wedding ceremony. All guests will take their shoes off at the entrance of the site and wear their headcoverings before entering the site. The groom will enter the ceremony site escorted by his family and sit on the front facing the Sri Guru Granth Sahib (holy book). The bride will enter escorted by her family and be seated next to the groom and facing forwards. During this time, the Sikh raagis and sewadar (officiant and musicians) will lead the ceremony. All guests will sit on the ground. The ceremony opens with an Ardaas (prayer) where all families stand while the sewadar recites the hymn invoking the blessings of the Almighty. Palle Di Rasam: The bride's father will symbolically join the Bride and Groom by placing one end of the Groom's Palla (scarf) in the hands of the bride while a hymn is sung. Laavan: The bride and groom will circle around the Sri Guru Granth Sahib four times to signify the higher circles of existence.

We will provide a vegetarian lunch at the Bride's airbnb after the ceremony. Please let us know if you have any dietary restrictions.

Celebratory Dinner

6:30 pm - 9:30 pm

Cocktail Attire: Wear cocktail dresses, LBDs, dressy jumpsuits, and dark jackets and slacks.
