WE'RE GETTING MARRIED

Shamus grew up in Vestaburg, MI, and is one of six siblings. He’s a hardworking salesman, a proud Spartan, and a hopeless Detroit Lion’s fan. Alexa is from Troy, MI and has an older sister. She graduated from Detroit Mercy, works as an ER Nurse, and enjoys spending time with her family and friends.

Shamus and Alexa met through Kaylin, Alexa’s sister, after Shamus and Kaylin studied abroad together in beautify Rome, Italy in 2014. Following the trip, Shamus decided to take a chance and send Alexa a Facebook message. A few months later they went on their first date and the rest is history.

In December 2022, Shamus planned a surprise proposal in downtown Detroit. Alexa thought they were going to dinner with her parents and on the way, they stopped to get drinks at the Monarch Club. When they walked out to the rooftop patio, Shamus got down on one knee and asked Alexa to marry him. Without hesitation, she said YES! A hidden photographer was there to capture the moment. Afterwards, they went to Apparatus Room where a group of their closest friends were there waiting to celebrate all night long with them. It was unforgettable.

Shamus and Alexa have enjoyed family vacations to St. John, USVI over the past seven years and it quickly became one of their favorite places to travel to together. When they went there a few months after getting engaged, they knew they wanted to have their engagement photos taken while on the island. The co-captain of a ship they had been on previously is also a photographer. They were thrilled that she was available to take their photos for them, making for a very special memory. Their first trip out of the country together was to Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. They had the best time just sitting by the pool and eating unlimited sushi. Another memorable trip was to Napa, CA. They explored different vineyards and learned a lot about wine.

Their future plans include traveling to new places, trying new restaurants, and making more memories together. One place they would love to experience together is Europe. Eventually, they would like to expand their family but for now are enjoying settling into their new home together.
