HOW WE MET

In a word? Tacos.

Back in early 2014, Ricky and Alexa were both invited to a mutual friend's birthday dinner. They separately made their way to a taqueria in Kansas City, Kansas and ended up sitting across the table from each other. Ricky proceeded to order 10 street tacos without batting an eye. They shared great conversation all night, but they made no plans to see each other after that. A few months passed. Things changed. Ricky decided to text Alexa and ask her out for a casual drink on a warm, Thursday night. She graciously accepted, and the rest is history. Fast forward several years and adventures all over the world, they've just started a new chapter in Phoenix and look forward to creating more memories (and eating more tacos) together.

THE PROPOSAL

July 7, 2018

Leading up to Ricky's 30th birthday in July, the two decided that they wanted to throw a party in KC to celebrate. As the weekend approached, they worked together to get everything arranged. Party venue, check. Chipotle catering, check. Enough booze for a small army, check. Alexa was getting in touch with family and friends to make sure they could be there. Meanwhile, Ricky had something else up his sleeve. He had already managed to buy Alexa's dream ring months earlier without her knowing. He then started texting everyone on the side that his birthday party was actually going to be their engagement party. The day began at Boulevard Beer Hall with some of Ricky's family who had flown in specifically for the weekend. It was time to wrap up and head out to the main event. On their way to the party, Ricky's brother Rob & his girlfriend Danielle asked to stop and see the iconic KC Liberty Memorial. Ricky obliged, and Alexa tried to play it cool even though she was internally panicking they'd be late to the party. Spoiler alert: they were late, but for a very good reason. Ricky walked Alexa down past the main structure and onto the lawn. He got down on one knee and asked if Alexa wanted to keep making amazing memories together (or something to that effect – neither of them really remember what he said). She burst into tears, said yes, and they partied all weekend long* with their closest friends and family. It was the best day. *Disclaimer: Partying this hard can lead to broken toes.
