Travel Note
The island is largely only accessible by ferry, although there is a very small airport as well. The ferry system in the San Juan Islands is ran by WSDOT and comprehensive information can be found: https://wsdot.wa.gov/travel/washington-state-ferries/schedules (or by clicking "View" below) Ferry schedules are released two months prior to the sailing season, two weeks before the sailing date, and two days before the sailing date. There are also stand-by spots on each ferry. When planning your ferry ride over to the island: 1. Click tickets in the top right corner -> Buy ferry ticket 2. Identify the "Anacortes - Friday Harbor" route and choose "Single ride ticket." Anacortes is the launching point from the mainland. 3. Select the ticket based on your transportation method (walking, cycling, driving, etc.) and add it to your cart. 4. Once you’ve added your trip to Friday Harbor, click the button to “book a round trip” and reserve a spot for your vehicle on the way back if you have one. 5. Please note that the last ferry back to Anacortes leaves Friday Harbor at around 10pm! If you do not need a car on the island during your stay, you can walk on to the ferry! It is cheaper and you do not need to make a reservation if you are walking on. If you are bringing a vehicle to the island, you'll want to arrive approximately 45 minutes early to the ferry terminal.
