Cheers to the Cornnells!

Avery and Alexa met during their time at Robert E. Lee High School (now John R. Lewis High School) in Springfield, VA. The two knew of each other before their formal meeting, and were often passing each other in the same hallways, frequenting the same soccer fields during practices and games, and even attending the same swim meets when they were younger. Little did they know the journey that was ahead! What started as a text from Alexa to Avery (don’t be afraid to initiate the conversation, ladies!), quickly led to Avery mustering up the courage to approach Alexa at school. The newly official couple attended Avery’s senior prom in June of 2015 and then Avery was off to Fort Benning, GA for Army basic training. During Avery’s time in the Army, Alexa began college at James Madison University (JMU). Avery spent many weekends at JMU driving back and forth from Fort Campbell, KY, and became a regular at JMU football games and parties. Four years went by and Avery and Alexa moved in together in the fall of 2021 and were able to start the next chapter of their lives! The two acquired adult jobs (Avery with a general contracting company that remodels homes and Alexa as a program analyst at Leidos), adopted Luna and River (the sweetest cats in the world), and are happier than ever! Avery proposed in June of 2024 in front of the Ocracoke lighthouse on Ocracoke Island, NC - a small whimsical island on the Outer Banks that Alexa grew up vacationing at all through her childhood and a place that has now become a special destination for them both. Avery and Alexa have thoroughly enjoyed the wedding planning process so far and cannot wait to spend their special day in a beautiful location with all of their family and friends!
