Matt and Shelby met how many do these days: on Hinge. Shelby swiped right first and the two got to know each other by phone for weeks before meeting. Shelby was smitten by his story telling over the phone, and then in-person by how much care and detail he put forth into showing he listened- by planning dates that carefully reflected her interests and reflecting his detailed side. Their first date he planned a nachos date, followed by Monster laser tag and mini golf. Matt says this is where he was sold on Shelby- watching her run around and have fun during Laser Tag, having more fun than any of the kids playing. Matt let Shelby see the true Matt on the first date after laser tag: inviting her to watch the UFO Congressional hearings, and pausing the hearings to talk about aliens throughout. Somehow, this led to a second date, and two years now together. Shelby knew she found her partner when Matt planned a date for Shelby at a pumpkin patch to get Nina, her daughter, a pumpkin. The two wouldn’t meet for months, but Matt was already taking Nina into thoughtful consideration. The two finally met in the spring with Matt taking the girls to Disney on Ice, and the rest became history. Another very important character in the story is Misty Moo, the pit bull mix that Matt rescued seven years ago, and his main lady. Misty at first planted herself between Matt and Shelby on the couch for months, acting as chaperone. Over time she approved of Shelby, and then Nina, and now is very attached to the girls, acting as a constant companion, friend and protector. The two often say to each other that they wouldn’t change a thing about their lives and love doing life together.
