I adore love stories, but this one is by far my favorite. Not because we met on a mission trip, or because he insulted my shoes trying to flirt with me and I thought he was a weirdo, or my first memory of the guy was swearing in a microphone on stage at a church event. This love story is my favorite because it glorifies our gracious and faithful God. Our story started in Belize-- when the Lord showed Colten a Sophomore at TCU who was trying to get her life back on track by being baptized in the blue waters of Belize, the same waters Colten was baptized in only a year earlier. Colten didn't pursue the girl because he was moving back to California, but he comes back to Texas a year later to work with Christ Chapel, the church both him and I were involved with in college. Little did he know, the girl he saw in Belize, was a senior and now working in the same church he received a job. Colten was told to choose a ministry to focus on, and it wasn't by accident he chose the college ministry because that's where I was working. His flirting finally kicked it up a notch! We simply became friends. Spring break rolls around and we are both leaders on the same Belize trip where Colten saw me. (Sorry babe I didn't notice you). The flight in, my ear drum blows and I end up being the most sick i've ever been. I don't remember the trip that much-- thank God for medication- but I remember Colten encouraging me saying how impressed he was by me pushing through the injury. Long story short, he asked me on a date. On our first date he asked if long distance would be an issue, me wanting it to work, said no. He got a phone call, left the table, came back, and told me he accepted a job in Wisconsin. He would leave in 2 months. We trusted in the Lord, and for whatever reason, distance had nothing on us, we became engaged 9 months after our first date, and Colten Christensen will be the easiest "yes" I will say over and over for the rest of my life.
