Fort Mellon Park and Splash Pad
Fort Mellon provides many active and passive amenities. Located on our beautiful Lake Monroe you can take a stroll along the Riverwalk lined with different options for seating and take in the wonderful views. At the park there is a playground fit for all ages, big and small. On those hot sunny days we also have our splash pad for anyone to come and cool off.
Wekiva Island
Our indoor and outdoor recreation complex is the best place to enjoy Florida’s natural springs. We offer kayak, canoe and paddleboard rental so you can explore the pristine Wekiva River and its fascinating Florida wildlife. Stick around and enjoy more than 2,000 square feet of Island fun. Play volleyball or cornhole, soak up the sun on our picturesque boardwalk or take a dip in the refreshing water. Unwind with craft beer and wine at The Tooting Otter bar, or grab some delicious eats from our onsite food truck, Without a Paddle Café. We also offer essentials and souvenirs at our General Store. Wekiva Island hosts fun special events year-round, and we have meeting space, event space and private cabana rentals for celebrations of all kinds. Black Bear Wilderness Trailhead
This site’s approximately 1,600 acres in northwest Seminole County feature a variety of wetland habitats within the floodplain of the St Johns River. Wet Prairie, Hydric Hammock and Cypress Swamps form a mosaic of habitat diversity which host wildlife such as the white-tailed deer, swallow-tailed kite and the Florida black bear. From the parking area, follow the blue blazes on an approximately 7.1 mile loop trail along the St. Johns River. Several boardwalks provide passage over wet areas. If you’re quiet, you may be fortunate enough to observe species such as the river otter, American alligator, and maybe even a black bear. This is a remote trail over rough, uneven terrain, where emergency access is very limited. You will encounter slopes, tree roots, and holes (animal burrows), so it is recommended to wear appropriate hiking shoes, and bring water, a hat, and bug spray. WATCH YOUR STEP!
